Title: 123rf video prices and commissions
Post by: fotorob on December 17, 2011, 10:03
Hello,

for a while now has 123rf announced that they start to sell videos now.

BUT: I was not able to find the PRICES they want to sell the videos for and the commissions they want to pay the videographers.

I sent them a mail weeks ago, but did not get a response.

Does anybody know more?

I do not want to upload my videos only to find out that they will severely undercut the prices of my other video agencies.

Thanks in advance,
Robert

I also asked about this here and on their blog. Never did get a direct response. Someone messaged me that they got a reply from 123rf and received the following info about prices and rates.

1080HD - 65 creds
720HD - 55 creds
480SD - 40 creds
240WD - 15 creds

same 50% cut for us as photos......

This of course is unconfirmed. I submitted a small test batch about a week ago, still in pending and no further news to be had, so I'm waiting till they get their act together before sending anymore!

Cant see anything in their site to suggest that they are selling video, was their an official annoucement or something to submit before it gets officially launched?

Will there be a 50% discount for whatever it is they give a 50% discount for photos for?

oops that is another site - never mind, carry on, nothing to see here.

I hope they review clips and tell us the prices soon.  There's no motivation to upload more at the moment.  Unlike stills, it takes a lot of time to upload a footage portfolio, it's a big commitment and I'm not wasting time until I know they are accepting my clips and pricing them reasonably.

I registered as a contributor just to see what the deal was and to be honest it doesnt look like they are ready. They accept WMV? MP4? the industry standard is MOV encoded with photojpeg plus there are no details about pricing, plus looks like a lot of people are complaing about their ftp. I shall most definetely hold off until they appear to be ready, but nice to see another middle tier player entering the video market.

Hi All,

For those who are having trouble with FTP, you'll need to create an account first:

Once you've done so you can actually see the supported file formats:

Will did ask me, I did reply:
Quote
1080HD - 65 creds
720HD - 55 creds
480SD - 40 creds
240WD - 15 creds

same 50% cut for us as photos......

Anything else?

Alex
I'm not sure if you have already addressed this:
- When will out footage clips be reviewed?

- When do we know if our clips are what you are looking for?

- When will 123RF footage launch?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.

1. We're starting reviews today.
2. You'll know when we start reviews, mostly commercial types please. I've seen some editorial like ones, we don't want those for now.
3. When we have enough content - perhaps mid January 2012.

Thank you!

Two quick questions.

Will contributors have the ability to choose or upload a thumbanil to display in the search? This is crucial for cg videographers btw.

Will you advertise video aggresively in the microstock market or just make it available through your search?

Good questions!

1. We can implement that, perhaps at a later that, or do some YouTube thing, grab a frame in the vid and then display it. (We can't have mismatches...!)
2. Of course we will!

Merry Christmas :)

Alex.

That's pretty important, Alex. Sooner rather than later would be helpful. Every other stock footage site that I know of allows changing the thumbnail. Often times, the starting frame is not at all representative of the clip as a whole.
Title: Re: 123rf video prices and commissions
Post by: stocker2011 on December 22, 2011, 21:52
Agreed, if i were you i would implement that from the word go. I am a non-exclusive contributor to all of the main agencies and i can tell you with all honesty that select thumbnail at a specific timepoint is crucial for us. P5, Revo, iS, Clipdealer all offer it because it is important. Some other agencies dont and the question gets asked time and time again and it usually falls on deaf ears due to i suspect cost/architecture requirements on their backend. For example, a video of the big bang. Frame starts as black then cresends to a glorious explosion, which frame would you prefer potentials buyers to glaze over?

Post by: alex123rf on December 23, 2011, 04:01
Hey there,

Our IT Manager informs me that we have prepared 10 thumbnails throughout the movie play that can be used as representative thumbnails.

We just have to implement a way in which you can select the thumbnails that best suits your footage.

The thumbnails capture 10 frame that are equally spaced throughout the length of the footage.

This should cover most contingencies.

Hope that's OK with you?

Alex

Hi Everyone,

The URL quoted is a bit off, this is the right one: http://submit.123rf.com/footage (http://submit.123rf.com/footage)

You'll have to log in.

We're prioritizing image reviews now, so footage will be a bit slower, we'll deal with this soon.

Thank you very much.

Alex.

Will you change comission for videos from 2013 as well as images?
Answered in the 123RF forum -- yes.

Seems particularly unfair for video-only contributors, since there will be only 10 months of sales by then. And how likely it is that initial sales of new media on any site are going to be robust?

Hey Stocker2011,

It's ok to upload using the codec PhotoJpeg.

Kindly email to [email protected] if you're facing any difficulties in video uploading so that we can guide you from there.

Have a pleasant day!

Made the decision not to invest the time to upload footage there much easier. Think I'll concentrate on Pond 5 where I can set my own prices and get 50% instead.

Will 123RF video be going live in March?
Title: Re: 123rf video prices and commissions

Does anyone know the video specs of 123RF?

Quote
Supported file formats are : .MOV, .WMV, .MP4
Kindly ensure your footages do not exceed 1 minute in duration.

The above doesn't say much. I'm need to know if the accept .mov files with the PNG codec and support for alpha channel.

Also, on the summary info table for each video, there is no information about the original video codec.
Buyers need to know this information.

Cheers.

that was in feb - after an earlier prediction of early Jan - another month and still no news? when will videos go on  sale?

Unfortunately, the longer the delay, the less time available to earn the 50% commission level  promised that led some to upload in the first place. Not to mention it lessens the time to earn "credits" towards achieving a higher than minimum commission level starting January.  :(

^^ Indeed it is -- thanks! As of when, I wonder?

The first search I tried was Hawaii ... and in the top 12 results were: a time lapse of clouds moving over the Grand Canyon, 3 palm tree videos keyworded with a multitude of countries that have palm trees, Atlantic Ocean Dominican Republic, and a majestically beautiful waterfall in Taiwan. But the other half (6) were all actual scenes taken in Hawaii.

This isn't a knock on 123RF, it's a knock against my fellow contributors who love to spam locations (among other things). (Though the Grand Canyon and Taiwain ones don't appear to be location spamming -- their keywords seem to pertain to different clips.)

Keyword spamming is so prevalent that IMO sites that weigh keywords based on buyer's purchases and clicks will eventually end up with much better search results than those that do not.

We've gone live on Monday, it's a very soft launch, ie. only several countries have it. Once we iron out the bugs etc. We'll go all out to promote and push footage.

As for the locations and keywording spam, it's a normal occurrence, we can remove keywords from the index at a future date.

Thank you very much,

Alex.

Great, glad to hear that. I hope it goes very well.

I wish there was a system by which buyers (or anyone who does a search) could report bad keywords. It doesn't mean the files would have to be changed, but at least that would give a mechanism for someone who is a keywording expert to be alerted to look and decide. OTOH, it could cause more harm than good if there aren't proper resources available (i.e., an available keywording expert).

Hey Stocker2011,

Yes, you need to click on the "Earnings"  located at the Footer when logged into 123RF to retrieve the full earnings report.

The credits on the top bar acts as a reminder to clients on their credit balance in the account for them to download images.

As for the video stats page, we're improving the features in stages. You can only upload, keywords and submit videos at the moment. We'll keep you posted as we add in new features.

Thanks,
Anglee

3. Scroll downwards to the footer, under contributors click upload
4. Select footage
5. Click Continue >>>
6. Click the Completed Footage tab
7. Click the appropriate filter: All | Pending | Accepted | Rejected
