Hi

I'm new to 123RF, and have some photos approved there.

I have had no sales yet, but if I search keywords for my images, f.ex. blue tit, choose most downloaded, and refine search to past 2 days,  some of my photos show up in the search, as if they have been downloaded  :-\

Is this some kind of promotion of new photos, or is there a delay in updating sales statistics to the contrubutor?

Congrats for joining 123rf! I love 123rf! I've been their 6+ years and have a BME this month!

Thanks MisterElements.

But do you know if photos have really been downloaded, if they are in most downloaded, or if it is 123RF that are promoting them in this way?

Hi Jens

Their updating is very near to real time. The search algorithms is one of the most talked about aspects about most of the sites. The fact that you choose most downloaded does not necessarily mean that the filter will exclude all images without sales, as they might perhaps also use a "viewed factor". No one will really be able to tell, but I think you can trust the sales stats they supply you with.

Hang in there, the sales will eventually come!

If I look at my sales by month, by date and total earnings, the numbers almost never match up. For instance, right now, if I look at sales for May, there is nothing for today, but if I ask for sales on May 30th, I have images sold today. I often see the opposite case happen frequently. I usually wait until a few days after the end of the month and look at earnings, which will always show more sales than I have recorded, then go back through sales for the month to try and figure out what I missed.

I find this weird. Are you using the default http://www.123rf.com/submit/commission.php page?
On that you see the day at the top and the months total at the bottom. I upkeep my own spread sheet, so I update on a daily basis the number of images sold on the day and without exception my total for the month tallies with theirs for the month.

Perhaps I am just lucky or you are unlucky to have a glitch, or I just do not pick up on the problem.  ???

PS There might be a delay between the spreadsheet with all the days of the month and the basic one with only today and the months, as I only use the latter, I would not pick up on a difference. Maybe you should just wait it out on the base page like I do?

A couple of months ago, in another thread I started, after them saying they weren't aware of this and then saying it was fixed, the below was posted. Didn't make sense to me and it didn't help me solve the problem, but here it is

Hey All,

The Earnings Page, Download Stat and Montly Stat pages are cached for approximately 24 hours from the time you clicked on the page where the page cache has expired.

Therefore, if you have viewed the 3 pages at different times and you have additional download during the gap of time, you will see differing results and these results are cached for the next 24 hours from the time you viewed those pages respectively.

Hope this can clear your doubt.

Cheers,
Anglee

You are right, it does not make quite sense, because if you refresh a page in Windows with Ctrl + F5 it loads the page completely fresh and does not make use of any cashed data stored from your previous visit to the page (you can perhaps try that if that is what Anglee is referring to to see if it changes any of the figures you originally saw).
Else she is referring to cashed information stored on their servers, which will declare a delay in updating between the different pages. Either why, safest to just wait till you see your sales on the main page (their might be a few hours delay, but it can not make us poorer ;))

There are potentially (and likely to be) caches between your computer and their web servers as well.  There are ways of forcing those to update more frequently, but at the cost to performance, so this is generally not done unless you really really need to have real time information.  And as much as I love the thrill of a new sale and am guilty of checking often, I suppose we don't really need to know the millisecond we have a new sale ;)

Thanks for the replies.

I'll just wait, and see what happens. It's good to read peoples positive reports on 123RF sales  :)
