Has anyone else noticed an upsurge in BigStock downloads over the last week or two?

I thought I was noticing a significant increase, and went and compared the first 12 days of November to the first 12 of October, and found that I've seen a 100% increase.  And we're not talking $2 vs. $1 which would be too small to make any judgment, but rather $80 vs. $36.  I'm wondering if this is a sign that SS is actively pushing buyers to BigStock now, either online when someone wants to buy on demand, or via phone support, as other posters here have discovered may be the case.

Anyone else seeing a marked increase in BigStock downloads and/or revenues?

I've had exactly a 50% decrease this month compared to the first 11 days in Oct.   :D

But I am talking about just a few dollars (3 sales vs. 6 sales), as BigStock has been a terrible performer for me lately. I have no idea why.

Yesterday (Nov 11) was good, but overall my sales at BigStock have been down the past few weeks.

Hoping that yesterday's increase will signal some lasting improvement.

Down  . . . . . . but with only 344 online I am not a good indicator.

The 2nd half of Oct was good, but that would probably be more due to my uploading over 100 images during that time which I hadnt done in months.

This is baffling.  I'm definitely seeing a significant and consistent increase, and not sure why.  Seeing numbers unheard of for my portfolio (which is just over 700 images).  Looking into it further, I see a fairly steady stream of 2.00 and 3.00 commissions starting on or around Nov 5.  Something must be happening, and whatever it is, I like it... unless it permanently replaces ODs from SS, which would be a net loss for me.  However, I'm also seeing a good amount of ODs at SS the last few days, which of course could be unused credits before the OD option was taken away. Hmmmmm...

This month is about 40% down on my BME there.  I don't think the SS effect has hit yet, perhaps some people are selling more but that might of happened anyway.

For me, the month started off really awful, but the last couple days have really made up a lot of ground. I'm not sure if I see anything out of the ordinary there yet. Maybe one more day like this and I'll start buying into your theories. On the other hand, my ODs have pretty much disappeared at Shutterstock.

My other thought would be you could just be having a randomly good month. One of those months that is so great it takes you a while to top and busts the bell curve on your stats. I say enjoy it regardless of the reason!

October was the best of the last seven months on BigStock. So the answer is YES! (for me ;D)

According to Tim (on BigStock forum) the big push has not even started yet .... and it will be a big push ... soon! The best is yet to come. So I hope a lot of the disenchanted leave and make more sales for me.

I've had 8 sales in 2 days which is good for me there lately - but yes we're talking about fluctuations of $2 to $20 from week to week in my case, so its not really statistically significant (for the record my average over the year is about $8 a week on BigStock).

I also had a BME of the last six months on a portfolio of over 300 images there. I continue to upload as fast as I possibly can there on the basis that it has yet to be determined how to handle the BigStock acquisition in the long run. I do believe that SS will find a way , in the long run, to make the logistics work when it comes to pushing traffic to BigStock for credit sales however this will likely be a huge undertaking if they choose to go that route ...

The have a lot to think about at SS regarding the BigStock acquisition ... but they also have lots of opportunity with it. Let's see if they can hold onto the ball now that they have it to run with.

Thought I'd take another look at my BigStock sales, as I just realized this morning that I've had just one ODD sale at SS in the last 12 days. (I've sold about 130 images in that time, which I know is about a day's worth for some here, but usually I'd have about half a dozen or more ODDs among 130 sales.)

Disappointingly, I'm still at less than half of Oct's earnings at BigStock, so wherever those ODD sales went, they didn't go to me at BigStock!  :(

Exactly the same situation here.  Hardly any OD sales at SS and a pronounced decline in sales at BigStock.

I have seen an increase in credit sales at DT, FOT, and StockXpert.  Maybe they went there?

Unfortunately not for me. While DT is up over a dismal Oct for me, FT is about even (more sales at a much lower RPD resulting in about equal with where it should be this time of the month), and StockXpert is clearly lower.

With Thanksgiving week next week, it isn't looking too positive for my November at most sites (though happily my #1 site, IS, is doing pretty well so far this month).

And also the same here (im happy to hear im not the only one, in the SS forums people are claiming they still get them daily and see no change!); i used to have daily OD's...now only 3 so far this month despite very good download numbers, and no increase in BigStock sales.  :-[

At SS, my per-day OD sales are DOWN 27% in November.
At BigStock, my per-day sales are UP 22% in November.
Having a very good November at DT (on a BME pace, but of course Thanksgiving will probably ruin that), so maybe it really is getting some of the lost SS ODs?

I had a couple more sales there yesterday and today. When 1.00 - 2.00 commissions are common there when they do come. Much better RPD for me there than say FT, or DT where my RPD is near .54 now ...

I am still speculating on a big marketing push or tie in to SS website within the next six months.

Uploading as fast as I can there ...

I started this thread in mid November when I saw a significant spike in sales at BigStock.  Two months later, and things have gone in the other direction.

Odd how certain agencies will buck current trends.  January overall is my BME by a long shot, with fantastic earnings at SS, IS, DT, FT, and relatively speaking, StockXpert and CanStockPhoto.   The others I actively submit to: BigStock and 123, are either flat or down.

It is impossible to comment on trends with people that hide their portfolio links, since illustrations/photos and type of seasonal shots might add a lot of noise on distributions with already small numbers.

For me (photos/varied) over 5 years, the trend is down since last year and this is not made up by an increase in sales on SS. The past week I had 6 sales, a number too small to do any statistics on. Over time, I had many sales per month from one single image that apparently was well positioned on an alliance site, and that image totally died since last year. Perhaps the deal with SS included dropping some alliances. BigStock never was very clear about those alliances.

I guess I didn't realize the BS had alliances.  Before the SS acquisition, they seemed to be very unique in the industry.  Is there a list anywhere of the affiliations or former affiliations?  Do you know of any of them?

OK, it makes no sense to do any statistics on small numbers and over a short period of time because of the sample error being much larger than any effect. You also have to weigh sales against portfolio size.

I'm uploading on BigStock since August 2005 and I made an analysis from begin 2006 till now. Since my full port is on BigStock (almost no rejections) and the current # is somewhat over 1200, I figure that a sales analysis over time can smooth out part of the sample error and indicate trends (if any).

I plotted earnings per month (blue line) against estimated portfolio size (pink line), and I did a moving average smoothing on the earnings (yellow line). This is the result:

Notwithstanding the large fluctuations that are inherent to small number of sales on BigStock in general, one can see two trends. The first one till March 2008 (included) that roughly follows port size, and a breakdown after that.

There is a deep dip in Q4 of 2008, most probably reflecting the outbreak of the credit crunch, but the trend already reversed near the end of Q1/2008.

After a weak rebound in Q1/2009 (just continuing the downward trend), the trend goes down and down till now, despite portfolio increase. It's an educated guess that around that time T&D entered into the red zone and started looking for a buyer before the potential (and the price) of BigStock went too low.

The fact that SS owns the site for a few months doesn't seem to have any effect on the BigStock sales till now. Thanks for your attention.

I can't do a nice chart like that but I have thousands of files there and I can see clearly that the site peaked in late 2008 and appears to be in its death throes now. My cash earnings are right back to where they were at the beginning of 2006, when I had been there for three or four months and had only a few hundred photos available.

I can't do a nice chart like that
I didn't know too before this, but I just discovered some essentials of Excel. On your earnings page at the bottom is a 2-column list of month/year and earnings during that month. Just copy it on the system clipboard from the browser and paste it in the Excel spreadsheet. It will put itself in 2 columns. Then add a chart and define the graph type; for the x-axis define the data source to be the column with the month/dates, for the y-axis do the same, selecting that column in your spreadsheet. For the statistics (like regression line or smoothing) just define the "function" type in the menu.

I've had five $2 sales in my last 50, the rest were pretty evenly split between 50c and $1. That seems to be the same as in the past. $3 sales are are almost as rare as hen's teeth.

Looking over my Feb. numbers BigStock and FT doubled in downloads. BigStock also doubled the previous month for royalties. With this they managed to knock DT down to 5th place.

[Small sample here]

I see large increase (and BTW, I did not have any per picture sale on SS for approx. 1 months with about 300 photos). That looks like the per picture sales migrated to BigStock. Yet too small sample here to judge. I surely hope it is just fluke in my stats.

Since the site redesign, my sales have been up about 20% vs. the weeks leading up to the change.

But suddenly today I'm seeing an explosion of sales.  Not sure if it's just one buyer who likes my style and is buying a bunch (13 sales in the past hour or so), or if BigStock launched a big promotional push this morning.

Whatever it is, keep it up BigStock!

I've noticed an increase since the site design, too. 9 downloads in the last 2 days...prior to that, nothing for a couple of months.

Proof that they are buying yours now and not mine.  ;D

Best selling image there for me, has 42 views and two sales, in two years. I think it's another case of time to pull the plug. It's not the right place for them to waste space hosting my images nor me to be uploading. Minimum sales are 50c and most have been $1, nice fair commissions.

I do like the new look of the site and I can find things easier. It may be the same layout with easier graphics, plus it's clean and functional.

In case that's a long answer... No Increase for me.

Still average sales for me on portfolio on 595 images with moderate uploading ...

I have noticed a significant increase this month and I saw a full page advert in a design magazine, so hopefully shutterstock are fully backing BigStock and it has a good future.  I feel much more motivated to upload there now.
