Agreed.  Reduced price shipping is hardly an incentive for me to cancel my Amazon order.  From Amazon I get FREE shipping and also 30 days to return, vs. 14 from Adorama and they won't budge on that one.

Never even got an e-mail from Fred even though I sent one off.

Strange

BH is horrible at offering deals.  I guess Adorama is on the same track

I am telling you guys - the only way we get a deal is on some higher profit margin items because the 5DMkII is certainly not one of them.

What is the higher profit item than 5DMkII? Maybe, 5DMkII with 3 lenses. So, I ask for 3 lenses and 5DMkII and still has no answer. Has anybody any kind of answer from "fred"?

My understanding was that some special deals were to be put together for members of this forum. I believe that the group moderator is in discussion with our marketing team re: a plan for doing this. In the meantime, Fred (Wasser) from the sales team has been given the job of looking after you, individually. The amount of any discounts will, of course, have to be guided by a number of factors, such as availability and profit margin - which are not my area of expertise.

I have just emailed  Fred that some of you haven't yet heard from him, and that you had hoped for more in the way of discounts - remember, though, that Adorama has been closed for 3 days (and there will consequently be a back log of orders & enquiries.

So, if you can, hold out for a little longer - either for Fred to sort something out (or for something more permanent to be put in place).

Please don't hesitate to contact me directly with specific queries: [email protected], as it's always possible that I can miss a posting on the Forum

Best wishes

Helen

This sounds encouraging to me.  I haven't bought anything from Adorama, but if something can get worked out, I might just give 'em a shot.

Well, I'm in for more than the body. This isn't a replacement cam, its an addition to the biz.   I want at least a base lens on the thing and I need a battery pack.  Extra batteries...   I'm more than just the bod.  Yeah, I know it's not a $10k  sale,  but if they can get  many 'for sure'  sales here... why not give a discount?
I've never purchased from these guys.... but I do buy a lot online.. if they can make me happy,  they can have my biz. 8)=tom

I got an email through MSG from Helen advising to contact Fred.  I'm waiting to see if there's any news from Leaf

Don't know where you got this information, but it is 180 degrees from accurate. New stuff, any new stuff is where the retailers make their margins. They catch the early adapters. If it wasn't for new stuff, or Christmas, most retailers would not be in business.

I Wonder if Helen knew what type of trouble she was getting herself in by by joinging this Forum.  I know one thing, she's making me more comfortable that I ordered my Mark II from Adorama last week.

That might be true for other average electronics, but if  - as I personally anticipate - the item is a HOT COMMODITY there is no incentive to lower the price until the item actually stays on the shelf. Adorama  sells it exactly for Canon's MSRP and canon products are not known to venture much below these prices anywhere unless you have an unrestricted DELL coupon or similar. Canon makes their main profits with lenses and later in the product cycle of cameras. Adorama does not charge an early adopter premium as far as I am aware - and I bought one of the first Rebel XTs from them and the price did not drop until Canon dropped the price.
Just my personal opinion.

Adorama does not charge an early adopter premium as far as I am aware

Adorama and every other retailer does not set the retail price. The manufacturer does. It is up to the retailer whether they choose to charge the full retail or not. However, the early advertising is paid for by CANON, and they will not pay for anything unless the advertising features the FULL recommended retail price.

They may also have some rules on retailers about offering DEALS for a period of time.

However (once again) Adorama could easily create a coupon system for a particular group of buyers, like this forum, that offers deals. While they may not be able to legally offer a reduction in price because of their agreement with Canon, they can offer "incentives" such as buy this thing and your next thing will only cost x.

... I think we are talking about the same thing.

I have broad shoulders, and I love being to help. I have a presence on over 150 photographic groups, forums, blog sites & web pages - but I do still get surprises!

Correct! Nikon currently have no camera capable of hitting XXL on IS.
Plus this has video. So all in all compelling reasons to change.

I've been in Florida for the last 2 weeks and out of the loop (no web access). Just got back a few hours ago with a couple thousand pix. ( hope there's a few usable in the lot... LOL)

What's the story on this? Did it go anywhere? I opted in but got no follow-up email.
Somebody please enlighten me. I am ready to buy one of these puppies ( wish I had it with me on this trip).  I'm chompin at the bit... ready to go.. what's up? thanks  8)=tom

yeah, there is a deal.  Check out the 'adorama deal' thread here

http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?topic=5997.msg65566;topicseen#new

in short it is 3% discount for regular members, and 5% discount for premium (paid) and diamond members (over 1000 posts) on microstockgroup.. there is a number of more details though so you should check out the first post in that thread.
