Hi! I am goind to buy EOS 400D next week, and want to buy 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 II USM lens. This is my first dSLR, so what do you think about that lens? I do not have money at this time for some expensive lens, and this is something that I will learn my camera on. Is it good lens?

Also, I am planing to buy 50mm f1.8 for portraits.

Can't speak to the 28-105 but if you can come up with a little more $$, I'd go with the 70-200 f4L.

The 50mm is a no brainer. Great lens for less than $100 us.

Good choice ... I have a 30D and I am sorry I did not get the 400D instead.

as for the lens, i would not invest in any Canon lens unless it was an L series.

check your options with Tokina, Tamron and Sigma before you buy.

A Sigman EX lens is cheaper, and the lens quality is fantastic.

I would probably agree with litifeta.  I would got for a sigma or tokina lens unless I was going to fork over the $$ for a L series canon lens.  the pro third party lenses would be better than cheap canon glass.
