CIPA has updated its PictBridge Certified Model listing dated July 17, 2007.

And there is a new listing for a camera called EOS 40D!

Check it out:

I can already see the dispointed threads at DP review if that is correct.

The problem with the 30D is that it is already perfectly good.  The only way to improve it is to give it pro features (not going to happen).

While still good, the 30D uses old technology -- DIGIC II. I assume the 40D will have the DIGIC III processor?

What I'd love (and seriously consider upgrading to) would be a 40d that kept it's 8megapixels with vastly reduced noise at all ISO's (think 1D MK3). Add in Digic III and perhaps a few other tweaks and I'd be happy.

What we'll probably get is a 400D with higher fps and metal body.

well if you take the 10mp image down to 8mp i am guessing you would have significantly less noise, especially if the noise on the 40D is improved allready.

What does the process do?  Is it just speed?? Or does it do image quality as well?

The 30D does what it is meant to do in its price range so other than small incremental improvements in the 40D,(10mp, Digic III, less noise) it is really a similar camera.  Worth the upgrade, ???

As I understand it, the reduction in initial noise from a larger photo sensor, outperforms what you'd gain from reducing the image size in post production.

Hmmm, another new canon, I wonder if this one will focus?   ;D

I was waiting for the MkIII, and I'm soooo glad I didn't pre-purchase, having read all the stories online about focus tracking issues.  (I want it for motorsport and field sports).
