I know I know, there are many threads about the (not so) new 5D MKII...

But when Canon released it, I decided to wait until spring to buy one.  I thought that Canon would lower its price after a few months.  Well I was wrong, in fact, there is a raise since few weeks here in Canada...

But for you guys who already have one, what are your thoughts about it?
What are the new features that you like best? (high ISO, HD Video, what else?)
Did you have any problems / bugs with it?
What does Canon should have done better (if any)?

I'm on my way to buy one mid april so I'm asking!

Claude

I love it! Its by far the most versatile camera I ever had.The bugs that were reported early on were fixed with an easy download.
I recently did a friend's wedding. Photos before, film of them taking the vows, photos after, and lots of film of drunken relatives having fun at the reception. So easy, all with one camera, and they are delighted with it all. The quality is superb. Just buy lots of big memory cards. I have 4 x 16 gig, 4 x 8 gig, and a few smaller cards. I used them all!
I shot with the camera on auto ISO, and expected a lot of noise in the evening indoor shots. I was pleasantly surprised. The noise was there, but far less than I expected.
Replacement batteries are very expensive. I am waiting for them to come down in price.  I tried a battery grip in the local camera shop, but the camera is too heavy for me to use in comfort with the grip in place.(I am average size for a woman).
I have not done a lot for stock lately, too busy, but I plan to get down to that soon. I did some macro work this morning, and had a first run through in Lightroom. They seem very good.
I have bought a new lens, but my tatty old lenses let the camera down a bit. I bought them before I knew any better! I plan to buy better lenses in the near future.
If I had the choice of buying the camera when I did or waiting, I would buy it straight away, but I do use it for far more than stock.

I'm happy with mine :)

Resolution is awesome. high iso - well it's there. You can easily process iso 12K shot and print 4x6 or maybe bigger and nobody would know, but honestly for stock I'd stay at 400 and under if I can help it.

It turns out that video is such a different thing that I don't find myself using this feature much. It is there and the results are great, but it is a whole different workflow and setup.

After 4 months with my camera I think is fantastic for stock. Due to my hobbies thou I wish I had 1dsIII :)

Aside the video it really is a good camera. I've started using the Liveview more and more. First I thought it was gimmick but no, that's not the case at all. High ISO is very nice. Have submitted at ISO 3200, my advice is to buy two of them.

Absolutely love the camera. I upgraded from a 300d at XMAS. The low light capability is amazing, live view is awesome for macro (if you do alot of micro its a must). The files are huge but editing is manageable on a fast PC. The video quality is amazing but as you know very limited. It is very much useavble for short clips for stock. I wouldn't film an entire wedding/event with it though. I would highly recommend the purchase.

Agree on this; I do have it on my actual 40D and I always use it when the camera is mounted on a tripod to fine tune focus.

I don't care about any of the extra bells and whistles like live view or video.  I just want a camera that takes great photos, meters accurately, handles flash consistently, has low noise, good color, etc.  The 5D II does all that perfectly.

It's my 7th DSLR and by far the best one I have owned.  Not a big sorry I bought it.  Would buy another in a heartbeat.

Only minor issue I have had is that the 24-105 kit lens tends to have a fair amount of cyan/red fringing in high contrast situations, but that's easily corrected in post processing or by using the 24-70 instead.

Great camera.  Best purchase aside from my 500mm f/4.  Want to buy another (or a 1Ds if I could afford it)

Hmmpf, I ordered mine with the 24-105 since the 24-70 wasn't available soon. Too late to change, I will pick it up next week. But I will add the new Sigma 50mm prime which has excellent reviews on all accounts. Plan to use the prime whenever possible, and keep the zoom for architecture and landscape. I hate fringe, it takes too much postproduction time to remove.

Interesting point... As I said earlier, I plan to buy a MKII in a few weeks and I'm thinking of getting the kit with that lens.  I hope I won't regret it but the kit is only 700$CA more than the body only.  And the 24-70 is 1355$CA alone, and I just can't afford that 655$ more!

And since my actual main lens is a Sigma 17-70 digital, I need one of these lenses.

I find the 24-105 is good between 35-90 but I only have the 5DMKI, so that might not be true with the increased MP's.

Check the recent Sigma 24-70, some initial reviews claim it to be sharper than the Canon version. Also smaller and cheaper.

There is some CA on 24-105, it an easy fix though, one click does it :D
