Title: Canva 15% tax withholding
Post by: leremy on July 31, 2018, 03:19
I have a question about Canva 15% tax withholding.

US based microstock agencies (such as Shutterstock, Dreamstime, etc) will send us 1042-S Form every year to show how much tax withholding they took.

As for Canva which is based at Australia, they took 15% tax withholding of our total sales regardless of where the customers from. My question is whether Canva will send us any "1042-S Form" or similar kind every year to us? This is important for us who are filing tax in our country.

No, they won’t send you anything.  You just have to come up with it from your records.  And if you’re in the IS, they should keep %5.

As a matter of fact, they do send an annual statement, at least they did last year.  On 25th July 2017 I received a statement from Canva stating the withholdings from 1st July 2016 till 30th June 2017.  Their accountancy year ends in June, so I expected to receive another one a few days ago.  Nothing yet ...
With this piece of paper, my accountant can deduct the paid taxes from what I have to pay in taxes, though it's a very late deduction, as I will only see the results of the second half of 2018 in 2020 ...

Thanks for the answers. So, I suppose we just do our own accounting as 15% tax withheld  without the tax form as proof first and expect to receive it later.
