Title: Monitor advice in 2017/2018
Post by: JuliaDacy on December 15, 2017, 10:08
Hi, all! I've seen here the topics about monitors. But technology goes forward every day, so in 2017(almost the beginning of 2018) is better to find out fresh advice. So I what can you recommend? Of course, I've already found some reviews https://photographylife.com/best-monitor-for-photography (https://photographylife.com/best-monitor-for-photography) https://www.bestadvisor.com/best-monitors-for-photographers (https://www.bestadvisor.com/best-monitors-for-photographers)  of monitors for photographers. But I used to use only my laptop (I am Newbie, indeed), so any advice will be appreceated.

Eizo and NEC are still the kings of monitors. Other brands are closing in though. I was surprised to see the latest iMacs perform so well!  with an Eizo or NEC tou will need an external calibrator though!
For video some new 4K screens are incredible. If money is no object go for an Eizo CG, unbeatable!

Some weeks ago I have bought for my wife the last iMac with the 4K monitor. Yes it is a really fantastic monitor, but it should not be used with the luminosity at the maximum, and it is still a…… mirror.

Eizo are the best, but they cost a kidney…
Also Dell makes good monitors for acceptable an price.
Is a $3000 Eizo 6 times better than a $500 Dell?

Yeah, price is really crazy :-\ but maybe, it is better to invest one time and always have the great result in the future..

And I was surprised with info about iMac monitor. What are you going to do? Return it?

No, I keep it of course! It is a fantastic machine.
When I say that it is a mirror it is not exactly like this :)
But as it is not matte, when you have something with a light behind you it reflects in the monitor, and it can be disturbing. So you have just to take care to place it in the way to not have windows, doors or any kind of lamp behind you (what I also do with any other monitors btw). It is also better if you wear dark closed…
