well you know, crestock.... the movers and shakers of the stock world probably have enough revenue to buy just about anyone they want.  I also heard rumors of them buying up getty for a market monoply

I wonder how the folks at Corbis feel about being associated with Crestock, not sure if they'll be laughing at this April Fools joke as much as the Crestock gang.

We were just emptying our pockets getting ready to buy getty when they got bought by someone else. It was inconvenient to say the least.

You could always buy out the private equity group that bought Getty ....

Josh,

Don't put your money back in your pockets yet, as luck would have it I know of a business that you could get for the $625 million you were going to pay for Corbis !

I know I have a bridge or two for sale.  I would let them go for around that much... give or take a million.

Would have been believeable if it was the other way around, with a macro agency buying a micro. And if it was anyone other than Corbis, who already has SnapVillage.

April fools?

Hahaha, I hadn't thought about this, but it could well be...  I think everyone is surprised, now let's see how it develops.  Bill Gates giving up a profitable business, that's news!

I just got this info from Crestock by e-mail so you guys must have received it as well.  Aren't you supposed to fess up to an April Fool's joke by Noon or you'll have bad luck or something of the sort?

If it's true... is that why SV hasn't moved out of Beta?  Because they have been in a holding pattern while the lawyers were negotiating?

Corbis and Veer will continue to operate as separate brands, while SnapVillage, Corbis' 2007 attempt at entering the micro payment stock photography market, will be merged with the Crestock brand.

I like it.

Some humour is always nice in this business - would boring, correct iStock have done it?

Nowhere else this was announced.

I must say that seeing a group of Norwegian visitors in our offices today scared me a bit - would they be buying my company too?

I had no sales (3 months already).  Had I received a sales notice, I would believe it was April's Fool. Grin

Adelaide

Is Crestock also buying out all the lost portfolio compensation claims at Corbis?

Hilarious.  Now if only they could put that much time and energy into approving or rejecting the vectors I submitted to them last month.

Is this a joke or is this real?

If it's real then why is the press release on only the crestock site and why is there a SEC forward looking statement disclosure at the bottom? Neither company is publicly traded right?

If it is a joke then it was a really bad one. If I was Corbis I'd be considering suing for injurious falsehood, intentional interference with business relations, and any other tort I could think of.

It's one thing to to prank, friends, family, co-workers. It is another thing to intentionally interferer with another person's business/livelihood. I love april's fools, just I would never do one that could financially harm people, especially people I don't know.

My prank this year: I came to work early and installed the "blue screen of death" screensaver on everyone's computer. The best part was how long it took the IT guy to figure it out.

well I don't think there was much harm done to corbis.... It is common for newspapers and radio stations to have april fools news, so why can't a stock site.

Well done crestock.  I can't see how this prank could harm anyone.  It gave me a good laugh.  It was completely unbelievable.  Perhaps April fools day is bigger in Europe?  The TV and papers in the UK were full of them.

I agree, it wasn't particularly funny, as it wasn't over the top exaggerated, and there wasn't any notice anywhere about it being a joke.
