Topic: What the heck is going on with Crestock?

Anyone know anything? Payouts take months, as do image reviews. Response from support is almost non-existent, forums are devoid of official info. Has anyone heard anything from the company or know if the temporary delays they've talked about will ever be fixed?

I'm getting the feeling that if I keep uploading to this site, I'm going to feel like an idiot in a few months when they finally do announce something, because at this rate that announcement likely won't be a positive one.

I gave up on uploading a while ago.  I'd been uploading a few at a time whenever I got a sale, to the point where I had 1000 images in the queue.  Eventually they were all reviewed, and all were rejected.  Pretty obvious that they never look at them seriously if they couldn't find a single one worth hosting.  I uploaded a few more after that, which have been sitting in the queue for months.  As surprised as I was to get my last payout after three months of waiting, I'll be even more surprised if Crestock ever returns to life.

I hate to say it Helix but I'm thinking it's gonna end in the "Doh !! I'm an idiot !!"  Grin .. I not only stopped uploading I made them remove my entire portfolio. Now I'm just waiting on my final payout ... and waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting.

Removed port there awhile back.  I don't think it's going to turn.

If anyone has credits to spend in a single image of mine, I will pay you in double.  I need 25c to request a payout and the deletion of my portfolio.  I'm too afraid they close before I get it.  Undecided

Those are definite signs of a dying agency. I stop uploading over a year ago. I always though that they had absolutely the wrong idea. They only wanted the very top cream of the crops of what the other sites already had. And expected us to be satisfy with a once in a while $0.25 download mixed with a rare $1.00 download. The two simply don't mix. If you only want the very top quality which demand thousands of dollars of equipment and top skills, how on earth will you keep your contributors happy with pocket change. Their collection has suffered because of their unusual reviewing policy and probably most buyers prefer other agencies due to the fact that Creststock is only a small portion of what other agencies already have.

You can discern the predictable fall of Crestsock with the following statements from the founder and CEO Geir Are Jensen:

"I believe there's a distinct difference between those who are in this business for the money, and those who are truly passionate about what they do."

Yeah right....those that are truly passionate.....only need $0.25 once in a while to be satisfy....

"We attract and nurture top photography talent and our strict approval process means we keep only the cream of the crop"

Yeah right....your strict approval process is such an attraction....who needs to be paid rightfully......when you have such an attraction

Didn't Crestock surreptitiously fire your wife/partner early last year? I would have abandoned them then.

Looking forward to see Crestock listed in 'Sites that no longer exist' here ;-)

For those with long waiting times for receiving payouts, did you request to PP or MB?  My preference is MB, but I wonder if it will take even longer, as you have to email them requesting this.

Thanks disorderly for buying an image of mine.  Now I can finally request my money from them and leave.  Hopefully still in time.

In my opinion it has been doing better than canstock (I mean canstock itself, not recent partners); but Crestock have had way too high ambitions. As they admitted most of their team left the boat, and it stays like that for around half a year. Thus most likely scenario if will quietly sink... or it might stay as a low-profile "1-man-company" as it managed to collect certain base of pictures and buyers.

I requested a payout and closing my account on Sunday.  The asked if I wanted them only deactivated or really removed, I requested the latter.  They did it today and my images are not online anymore.  Waiting for the payout now.

I can not complain about their prompt response.  Hopefully payment will not take months.

Looks like I will be doing that when I hit the next payout.  It is a real shame, I don't like leaving a site but $0.25 subs and waiting months for a payout is forcing me to leave.  I haven't uploaded there for a long time but I had hoped they would sort out their problems, my patience has run out now.

Edit.  Just logged in and I am over the payout limit, so I have asked for a final payout and for my account to be closed.

Yeah they crap canned both of us and others out of the blue then it was right after that Josh left and it all went downhill from there ... however I can safely say that the cash we each earned while there was more than worth the annoyances .. good days and slow days .. mostly good days and on a good day I made more money before lunchtime than most people in the US make in an entire week from a normal job .. I almost felt guilty for it ... almost  Grin ... maybe that's why they can't afford to pay anyone now LMAO which by the way I still have not got my final payout (surprise)

Sometimes I go days without anything of significance found on this forum then, BAM ... as that food guy would say ... a gem jumps out.  It is scarey how much I don't know about this business.  LOL

Must be nice to know the internals, first hand.   Smiley

hmmmm well in some cases I'd almost rather not know a few specific internal details .. like with a certain company I cannot name .. I could blurt out a couple memos that would really tick off .. ohhhhhh a few hundred thousand photographers and make a few well knowns look like total hypocritical crybaby nancyboys .. everybody would be sitting at their computers saying "this is a bunch of Bull%$# !!!" .. but that's what non-disclosure agreements are for .. and no I will never tell .. but I'd like too .. and that simply sucks. Just glad I no longer work for the company I'm referring to.

Hmmm... you are tweaking the natural curiosity of a journalist in me.   Tongue
Just kidding.  I don't upload to Crestock and have never really had the desire to do so.  This forum doesn't do a lot for their reputation.  I do feel that Crestock is not alone, however.  The entire industry is dog-eat-dog.  So sad.  It makes me feel stupid for being honest.   Roll Eyes

I worked for Crestock for months doing inspections (oh, and uh, I was a nice inspector - so don't hate me)  Back then it was quite frustrating to read all the nasty forum entries about reviews, reviewers and the lack of response - it was very disheartening - I stopped inspections right after Josh left.  I was really hoping Crestock would get it's negative image turned around, but it now I think it would be near impossible.  I still sell my images there and I sell 3 or 4 a day so it's not too bad - not all are subs.  I get payouts, but they do take months, but I'm not giving it up yet...

fingers crossed.
