It appears Depositphotos.com are on the look out for some new photographers with large portfolios. This was an emailed link I received from them earlier today, although I already have a small portfolio on their site.

Link below to their site.

I received that email as well, and was pretty pi$$ed off to see that they plan to give "higher positions in search results" to large contributors! Anyone else?

Me too. It must be a real crisis when I'm considered to be high volume photographer.

Don't forget preferential review time, as well. VIP status gets you faster image inspections.

Pretty ballsy for a new company to be trying to push down people they see as part-timers or hobbyists. Especially when there are so many great pros in this business with what DP would probably consider small portfolios.

Anyone have any idea how large your portfolio needs to be in order to be one of the "VIP" contributors?

I think that it is more about quality than size.

Interesting that they promised the same thing in terms of placement to many of "us small people" 4-6 months ago. It is nothing more than lip service in my opinion.  They are making promises that have a foundation of sand.

They're a shady company. Been so since the beginning. It's no surprise that they would be making promises they can't keep, or perhaps never had any intention of keeping.

Their email didn't make me happy at all. I am their contributor and they have many of my images. They have sent me this email probably to let me know that others will get some money for uploading, but not me and the contributors that will join DP later than me will get higher positions in search results. If I understand it well - these advantages cannot be applied to current contributors - or did I miss something?
In fact I feel like deleting my content more than uploading the rest of my images.

"...All photographers with large and high-quality portfolios automatically get VIP author status at Depositphotos, including top priority with image inspectors and higher positions in the site search results. .."

That's a pretty bad PR move - it looks more like an all-in bluff than else . I'll refrain from further uploading for now

0.25 cents per subscription download. -which is rubbish.

This month-to-date I have 24 subscription downloads ($6.56) this includes x1 one on-demand download at the slightly higher rate of $0.81.

Last month 37 downloads for a total $9.25. Wow I can just about buy a couple of beers!

It depends on what your sales totals are, the more sales volume the higher your tier which in turn you make more than .25 and their on demand downloads are greater also. Deposit photos is kinda like that...the more $ worth of sales the higher tier you become which means more per download, but the difference at the time is the sales volume. Maybe someday Depositphotos sales volume will be as good as Shutterstock, but as of now it is not....for me anyway. I have more photos on Depositphotos than I do on Shutterstock but my sales volume is much higher on Shutterstock. That is the big difference. It's the sales volume is what makes the difference.

Just joined them!  Istock-Diamond- status, Getty-RM contributor and big! portfolio, whatever this is worth?  I certainly havent received any prefferential treatment. So if they are trying to recruit ?  theyre going the wrong way about it.

Anyhow, like their site, nothing wrong.

Shutterstock Payment Tables
Here it shows the full description and breakdown of payments for all types of image purchases.

Still hard to fathom that even with an excess of $10,000 lifetime earnings that on a 25-a day subscription you would still only earn $0.38 cents per download - only $0.13 cents more than someone with less that $500 lifetime earnings.

I have a total of 319 images on Shutterstock. I haven't uploaded to them but maybe a few in over a year. I make pay out every two sometimes three months with my port just sitting there. I average about $30.00 a month, sometimes more. That's more than I make at any of the other stock sites. There are some on here that make payout on a monthly basis and many make more on there than they do on iStock with the large portfolio's.

My attention has since turned to more marketable avenues where I make a lot more money. Microstock doesn't really interest me any more and I'll just let my ports sit there and earn what they will. I'll probably upload some every now and then but they are no longer my top priority.

"Only" 52% more? That sounds like a pretty decent amount to me.

OK I take your point the percentage increase looks like a lot but when your talking incremental increases in cents not dollars.......it does not add up to much

That's the nature of Shutterstock's subscription plans.  Small revenue for each sale, but a lot of sales.  And buyers on subscription download a lot more than individual image buyers.  I've seen a lot of downloads of related images, which either means the buyer figured he or she would decide which one to use later, or they just liked something about the series and used their unused download quota to get them.  Either way I win.  And between subscription downloads and individual sales, I make a lot more on Shutterstock than on any other agency.

I'm beginning to think these people aren't sure what they are doing. I got this rejection yesterday for "The photograph infringes or seems to infringe a copyright or trademark.
We do not accept images of objects protected by copyright or trademark, such as logos or other objects that are the intellectual property of third parties."

Please tell me, is God mad because I took a picture of his/her lightning?

Wonder if the rejection is related to the recent fuss - I forget where - over using filters and 3rd party software to "edit" images. I'm not saying that you did but there are a ton of tutorials and plugins that make lighting in PS.
