Are comments on images at dreamstime always private?  I have been there for so long and I feel I should know the answer, and think that they are perhaps private..... but i never really checked to find out.

I went right to the image ID 6584068 while logged in. It is the woods image, yes? Cannot see comments in any of the tabs. I think it may be that you can only see comments if you have participated in the dialogue for that particular image.

Yes that's right.  Once you comment a photo you will be able to see all the comments that the photo has ever had.

yeah, there doesn't really seem to be a place to look at your own comments - unless the other person replied back.

Ok, after some testing with Opla, I think this is how it works, unless i am missing something, which i very well could be.  And now that i have found the answer it is not surprising I was confused.

Comments are private UNLESS you reply back to the comment, then the commenter can view all the comments on that photo.

So if i comment on your photo, I still can't see the comments on the photo, not even the one I posted.  That is only true however, until you REPLY to my comment.. then I can see both my comment, your comment and anyone else who has commented on that photo.
