They're at least 5 years too late but I'll upload some and hope they get some buyers.

Finally.

I think it will take at least one year to build a considerable portfolio to generate sales.

I will upload too.

What is contributor's cut?

Check the link in the first post.

The price structure detailed below is not fixed at this point.Video clips will be available for credits-only and there is no subscription plan available for now. Royalties are the same: 25-50% for non-exclusive videographers and 60% for exclusive videographers. There will most likely be a level-based price structure and a final decision for the price range will be made in the upcoming weeks, based on the quality of your submissions and also on the feedback we receive from our buyers.

For them to have a hope of catching up with the other sites, they need our clips.  They should pay a flat 50% for the first 2 years.  If they get buyers, then they can change that.  I'll probably only upload a few clips.  Not worth it if they end up paying 25% for the first download.

By the way, why pjpeg and mjpeg only?

My camera (most of the cameras actually) creates original H264 .mov files. Why do I have to process them to convert Pjpeg? All other agencies accept H264 except IS.

Achilles, I mean c'mon... Why would I want my videos to be licensed on DT instead of Pond 5 or SS?
The footage market is not so oversaturated, if the buyer cannot find the proper clip he moves on to the next site.
I prefer when the next site is Pond5.com.

$ 70-80 for HD seems to be the sweet spot for me. SS is very succesful with $79.
Achieving Level 4-5 with clips in a reasonable timeframe on a site that just started to sell footage is unrealistic.
As of now, I am not interested in your footage program.

Non exclusive uploads are checked as "exclusive " in the pending files section.  Seems to be a bug in the upload process.

Totally agree. Videos do not sell in the volumes of still shots and are a lot more work. Pond5 has it right and Shutterstock has good volume, if lower prices. The less said about Istock the better. I can't see any reason to sell on dreamstime. Buyers will quickly search the all the sites- there's far, far fewer pages to go through on a search. If I sell on dreamstime I'm just giving it away.

Perfectly said, and completely agree. I won't be UL'ing to DT as long as they keep the proposed structure.

This seems a logical analysis. I tire quickly of sites that don't produce a modicum of sales. iS has flatlined with no defibrillator in sight. FT has sent me to the looney bin more than once with their erratic editing; take it all one day and nothing the next.

25% for the first sale always seemed a bit low to me, but at least with the pics there is a reasonable chance that you could get a bunch of sales and thus get a better percentage over time. In my quite limited video experience one or 2 sales might be all you get.

It's nearly impossible to get a reasonably high level of video sales, so the RPD will be much lower than on most sites. Doesn't sound very appealing to me.

I posted in the thread that the levels are a big disincentive to upload but they seem to think it will be quite easy to get 25 downloads.  If they do as well as some other sites that are late to the party, it will be impossible for me.  Much more likely that almost all of my clips will be on level zero and that's not making me want to upload my portfolio.  It's a shame that they don't take much notice of contributors feedback.  I'd like them to do well with video but they would have to at least start paying us as much as Pond5 until there were regular sales or it really doesn't seem worth the effort.

I'm uploading clips to 5 sites but it's only Pond5 and SS that get most of them because it takes a lot of time to upload.  DT are now 6th on my list, almost beyond the back burner :)

25 DLs on video is really tough, even on the better sites.

25 downloads for a video is a lot and it seems they may be overestimating the volume for footage.  On the picture side I really like dreamstime (other than the subscription offering) and it does well for me.  So I'm hopeful for the video side but they're really late to the party and both royalties and prices will have to come up quite a bit if they plan to succeed and get contributors behind them.

I sent 2 videos in and went through all the steps to get them into pending and all was fine for about 2 hours. Then they just vanished, not in pending, not in on line files, not in rejected, no where to be found! I posted on the message board but no response about it yet (8-9 hours ago) I am now thinking that maybe might have to wait until the whole thing is up and running to let them get past the bugs.

I had 5 uploads vanish.  I uploaded my smallest files first, as I thought something might go wrong.  Don't think I'll bother with anymore, I'll wait and see if anyone gets some sales with them.

Although H.264 is not specified, anybody tried to upload H.264-encoded videos?

I did, by mistake. The file showed up in the unfinished section together with the pjpeg files, before they disappeared altogether.

I think there has to be an automated selection if they insist on only pjpeg codec. I just wonder how IS is doing, what happens if I upload H264 to IS? Does the system detect it just after upload or the reviewer check it?

PhotoJPG is common across many sites so I basically convert to this codec before submitting. H.264/MPEG-4 cannot used for commercial purposes without paying royalties to MPEGLA.

Explain to me again why we would want to start supporting a site who has a) no video sales history and b) is offering a lower commission to the current market leader Pond5?  Pond5 is offering 50% of the sale ... why would we want to help create competition for them.  It's in our best interest to keep the buyers there...

I have no footage (yet) and I do understand your point but in fact regarding pictures we aren't following that logic, we should but aren't, again its up to you and me and other, the great life of the microstocker ;D

nothing will ever change and the only "guys" taking advantage are agencies!

Agree 100%. I can't find not a single reason to support video section on DT.

Hmmmm, I have followed many discussions on 264 vs pjpg but as always, there are some saying 264, some saying pjpg and some saying it doesnt matter. All added up, what I understand from that, is that it really does not make a difference what codec you use. I have yet to find someone to tell me that they lost sales over using a certain codec.

I just submitted 10 videos to SS in 264... should I delete them and upload in  pjpg? Following my own logic, no, listening to you, I should.

Confused.

Yes, you do have a point - I've just starting to feel differently the last months (year or so).  I also read an interesting quote about how creating competition for yourself essentially ruins your market.  I don't feel strong enough about it to pull all my photos I've uploaded on every agency but I am thinking a lot about my actions in the future and what I'll do with future uploads.  I'm starting to think that exclusive content is probably a better solution overall and creating undue, poorly paid competition for yourself is a poor solution.

I am not sure if they have to pay for 15 second clips though

Exactly.
In addition we can fix prices ourselves at Pond - no need 'levels'. DT will not get any videos from me unless they pay 60% commission.

So.......

I submitted some videos and all were rejected. At first I was annoyed and of course trying to figure out since I have a zillion clips on other agencies, why?

Now I can say, this was MY fault.

For some reason, when I first set up my parameters and named them as presets. I set the quality at 49 and the codex at H.264.
Uhhhhhggggg....Out of 300+ clips sent to SS only 3 have ever been rejected so it never crossed my mind to double check it.

Now I am considering that I might be having slower clip sales because my quality level is crap. Duh.

...and now I might have to revamp all those clips delete and resubmit a little at a time if I really want some sales.

Before I start this HUGE project, I am going to submit a few in this format to SS and FT and make sure they are accepted.

*. Well, I suppose I could have bigger problems.  ::)

Why would I give DT some videos to help with this new endeavor?

For me, it's not about the money (right now). (I know, it's dog eat dog but I'm a beagle not a pit.)

After a 40 year break from stock, when I first started back, they were the ones that got my feet off the ground again while I was still transitioning to digital and an internet industry and such.

I learned a lot. I got decent answers to my questions and decent feedback on my rejections instead of the "Take a hike and try again later" feedback I got from the other agencies. This gave me the tools to get better and get accepted to some top tiers.

I am not exclusive, so I owe them some loyalty when I can help in other areas.

IMHO.

We support Pond5 where ever we can (links and banners on hundreds of websites we run) because its worth to do so as long as they keep their royalty-policy.
So why should i upload our videos to DT - its like burning down the house i want to live in.

We got more then 8.000 items online with P5 and SS and as long as DT does not overhauls they price-policy we will not upload any clips.
And every one who has clips online with P5 and gives his clips to DT lacks the capability to think for a longer stretch than just until next dinner.
