Hi All,
Just noticed that Dreamstime isn't offering a one week subscription anymore. Anyone have any info on this? Seems like a new thing to me.

It wouldn't be too surprising if they got rid of them. It didn't seem like it was a very good money making idea for DT because buyers could easily download their full quota. Maybe, it was just a short time thing to entice new buyers? I don't know. Just speculating.

I didn't notice they were gone, but it is good news.  One week subs are the ones most likely to cut into PPD business - that's bad for DT and for us too.

Glad to hear it.  I never thought that they were a good idea.

This is good news, and I would be happy to hear they quit subscriptions altogether.  :D

I'm not a fan of subscriptions (and that was one of the factors in steering me to IS exclusivity way back when), but DT has done something quite interesting with subscriptions that I'm warming to now that I've been back there a few months.

I think the big thing is that there is something in it for the contributor to look forward to, as long as there's a mix of credit sales in there. For me that's been the case. When a file sells, even a 35 cent subscription, that boosts my take on future sales so that when someone buys a maximum size credit sale my take goes up. From level 3, my subscription commission goes up as well. So for each subs sale I feel much more positive than I do at other sites. SS does have a ramped commission structure but (a) the steps are quite far apart and (b) after $10K there isn't anything in it beyond the sales themselves.

Level 5 subs bring in over a dollar so even with subs my RPD is way higher than anywhere else.

Yep nice to see some good news for a change. Guess they realised just how much this cuts into PPD sales. I think in many cases this sort of thing doesn't lure new buyers, just cuts prices for those that are already buying from the site.

Agree.

I do applaud them, though, for trying to think of new ways to encourage buyers, and then discontinuing when it isn't making money for anybody.

I've always been impressed with how Dreamstime rolls out changes, keeps contributors informed, responds to ideas and criticism on the boards - and then isn't afraid to admit something didn't work and roll it back.  The Print on Demand is another that comes to mind...  It is kind of refreshing to see that something that seemed on the surface to be good for the agency at the expense of contributors wasn't good for either party!

This change will probably hurt my sales on DT, which have already been on a downward trend for a while.

The reason is that I do vectors mostly, and the prices of vectors are so high on DT that virtually no one buys the eps files there as PPDs. I can only sell them as subs or as JPGs. If DT cut their vector prices in half, I think my revenue there would increase. As it is, reduced numbers of subs sales will probably hurt me there  :'(

Still, I would prefer I had the option of not selling at subs, even at the cost of hving my images climb slowlier. 70c or $1.05 is nice for a subs, but still ridiculously cheap for very large images.
