Since I am banned from SS (2yrs ago) I have relied on other sites to carry the load. I mean
I was making $400 a month on SS.

This month I did a BME with $303 and now wonder just how far I can push the limits on DT?
Is there anyone who personally reaches $400 or more on DT?

I would like to know and hear what your experience has been, and how your earnings progressed over time.

For me DT has seen steady growth from day one.  Just had my BME there in March.

Sounds like you are already doing well there - no telling how you will do in the future, but if you are uploading consistently  and also take advantage of exposure opportunities like joining their contests and donating the occasional free image then you can expect to do very well IMHO.

As a reference point, they are 12% of my total microstock income.

Out of curiosity, why were you banned from SS?

Miz, why don't you ask if you can join SS again?  2 years is a long time, they might give you another chance.

Isn't today April 1st and isn't MIZ a MIZ ?

hehehe No its not a joke, I was banned for bad mouthing the reviewers. First I was banned
from their forum because that's where I bad mouthed them. Then I started my forum where I
REALLY poured on the heat.

Jon visited my forum one day, read what I wrote and finally gave me the boot. No I can't go
back because I stick behind my words, the SS reviewers are lousy reviewers and don't know
their ass from their elbow.

since then you diplomatic skills  might have much improved and taking into account your SS experience would you argue for all of us at DT forum explaining to DT how perilous are the subs?

Look I ain't getting into any more trouble. My diplomatic skills have worsen in those 2 years
and I still put my foot in my mouth quite often.

I'm trying to improve my relations with all the stock sites but SS, which I HATE with a passion.

I was perhaps thinking that DT might be able to take over the lead in the money making scheme of things, thus the reason for this post.

I think Chode (the three eyed without glasses) may have the answer. He has lots of good quality images and begun to upload to them recently.

Wow, man. Impressive. I haven't seen such commitment to completely screwing oneself over as you have illustrated here. Assuming you only maintained that $400 a month and didn't even increase earnings over those two years, had you just acted like a professional you'd have just about $10,000 more in your pocket today. Seems like too costly a move to me, and I'm a fan of running my mouth sometimes. But even I wouldn't go that far and risk getting kicked from a site. You started your own forum about it? Priceless.

There are things that SS does that I'm not a fan of. I've been open about my belief that they pay the worst percentage in the business yet are one of the two biggest microstock sites out there, which would logically lead most people to the likely conclusion that SS keeps far too great a share of the profits. But there are also things that pretty much all of the sites do that I could find fault with. SS is not a stand-out exception. They are all individual businesses, and all do things differently. At the end of the day, I want to sell my images with all of them, and so I play by their rules. My choices are to either play along, or do something stupid and get banned, giving up thousands of dollars in the process. These companies are my employers, and while I may not agree with everything they do, and maybe even complain about those employers amongst "coworkers" (you folks around here), I wouldn't do something to risk that employment because it would just cost too much money.

If I were you, I'd swallow my pride and try to get back in Jon's good graces. You've already lost enough money in the 2 years you have been away. What you'll gain at SS will far outweigh any additional gains you could make with DT.

Also, consider that in those 2 years, many different reviewers have come and gone at SS. Maybe you won't have the problems you had in the past.

Ah but it was not a loss. You see money the object by which most of you guage your success
is merely a point system in this game I play called stock. Sure I don't mind the money I like it.
However its not the driving force.

Take the monetary value of the cash I earn away and I would still play this game as long as
the money were replaced with a points system. Being happily retired, digital art has now
replaced the hum drum work routine I once slaved over for 35 years with a more willing
and happy work enrivoment at home.

No I don't miss SS and I still make close to $1000 a month even without them. ($965.00 for March.

So I can't play the game on SS's field anymore so what. I still play the game all the same
and have carried it one step further to art galleries during the Summer months.

So can we get back to the original thread now?

Then, #1, just post your stuff on flickr if all you want is points and love, and #2, if you don't care, why the OP in the first place?

Why, logically, would there be a "cap" on how far you can go on Dreamstime?  Depending on who you talk to, they are usually the #3 microstock agency in the world in terms of earnings.  If you are most interested in your performance there, then participate in their assignments (instant Level 5).  Maybe even create some exclusive material?

I know you have a lot of sales there, Miz.  But it isn't hard to find contributors with far more sales at DT, so I hardly think you are near the top of your potential income.

But I also agree with the other posters.  I'd try to get back on Mr. Oringer's good side, with a heart felt apology.  No reason to burn a bridge because you had a problem with a reviewer 2 years ago.  And as much as you were angry with a reviewer, I don't see a reason to drag Shutterstock the company through the mud.  I view Shutterstock as having the most fair search engine in the industry (most popular = downloads per time on line, no black magic).  They also have amazing site stability, regularly increasing commissions, and darn good earnings.  And honestly I don't get any more rejections there than I do at iStock, which I also remain faithful to despite my disagreement with the 20% commission share.

Miz,

It's always hard to receive rejections, looking at the three links you've provided it's clear judging by the numbers and your time on the sites that a lot of your work has been rejected by iS and StockXpert, so I presume the same thing happened at SS which is what initially angered you.

Rather than insult the SS reviewers why not gain by it and spend your time learning to rectify whatever the problem was, you must spend countless hours on your tutorials surely that time would be better spent learning photography and editing.

And I must agree with Sean, no matter how noble your comment, there is only one reason people submit to stock sites and thats money.

sjlocke I didn't ask for any suggestions from you.  Least of all you.
When you become an expert in this game I play it's time for you to move on.

Until then keep your silly stupid bad ass suggestions, to yourself.
Save them for some unsuspecting soul who thinks your good at this game.

However its not the driving force...

I've heard this many times before, and still never believe it. Sure photography/illustration are fun. Keywording and uploading, however, are not, and no one would keyword and upload for fun. There are other places, as mentioned, that you could post photos to just for fun that would be much easier to upload to.

And as you originally posted:

This month I did a BME with $303 and now wonder just how far I can push the limits on DT?
Is there anyone who personally reaches $400 or more on DT?

So excuse us for not buying into the "I don't care about the money" routine.

I don't understand why do you write things like this. Do you really like making people mad?

Sjlocke IS good at this game. He is in the top 10 best selling photographers at iS. Even if you think that his stuff is cr@p you have to admit that it sell well and that's the whole point of microstock.
If you want to do art, sell it at a gallery.

I have to agree with maco0708. As it was written by a British critic a hundred and more years ago on subject of metaphors: one should care about the sensibility of the recipient.

It means all 3 of you are bad asses, and you need to move on and find games to play.  From what I can gather.

That would be delusional.  Sean's portfolio is excellent.  This is one of my favorite stock photos:

R u Kidding miz, $300 in a month is no way near how far you can push any microstock site, there are people who make that much in a day over at DT.  Have you noticed they recently announced a limited payout ammount of $10,000 at a time? that must be a good hint for you.

People often seem to use SS as one of the main arguments for not going exclusive at iStock. Is this something that you would consider?

Judging by the number of images with flames you look to be very successful at creating images that sell well on IS but its a fraction of the size of your portfolio on IS

As you have over 2500 downloads (silver) on IS you would get a 50% increase if your downloads stayed constant and they would more than likely increase substantially due to better placement etc.

Its likely too that that would soon get you to 5000 dls at which stage I think you can apply to Getty also
