It's only a third through the month, and already my sales are double my monthly average.  Strange days . . .

It doesn't look like it will be one of my best months there, but hopefully better than last month!

December DT is down from November for me... SS is the only site where my sales are up dramatically this quarter. Most others sales up slightly or flat [but even sold at USPS].  Starting to pick up some sales at LO.   FT, haven't sold a thing in weeks.
But this is from a guy with a small 'folio of  roughly 300 pix.  I won't be buying my mountain cabin any time soon.  ;D

The vast, vast majority of my sales now are all 'travel'(national park, cities)  or "outside activities' (hiking, camping, mountain biking, etc.)  style shots.  I've only been selling since late summer this year.  Do you see seasonal changes in the type of pix that sell throughout the year, besides the obvious holiday related stuff?  For example, would there be specific times of the year that  'travel/tourism'  brochures are designed?   curious..      =tom

DT Sales this month are doing well for me, but that is probably, because I had two Free Image of the day in row. One is still free, the last day, if you want to take your chance :-) The two Penguins are from me.

Freezingpics,

Do you think that free image make you sell more?  Why is it?  I've discussed it with a friend and I can't see a good reason why someone would buy more just because he liked the free image, unless of course this is what he is looking for and in our portfolio he finds better images for his project.

A question regarding Free images

What was the lag time between submitting the free image and it appearing?

I would think it would draw people's attention to your portfolio just like being a featured photographer.

I wonder how many designers DL the free image regardless of whether they need it at the time

The closest I got to that was having the 50,000 th image at Featurepics but it was a very dull photo and even with three thumbnails of more interesting photos I didn't see any sales during the period. I would hope this was due to the number of visitors rather than the quality of my photographs  :'(

Yes I think it makes me sell more. Especially with my portfolio. The Free Images are from the Arctic or Antarctica, so people  might get the idea to look for Images from Antarctica or the Arctic which is the main part of my portfolio. So my sells went up during this time. More people will check your portfolio. Even if only every 100st person who looks at the Free Image will look at your portfolio you have 50 more people looking at your portfolio when you have 5000 views on the Free Image. When more people will see your images it is more likely that they get downloaded. I experienced increased sells during the time the Free Image was up on DT as well as on IS when I had there my Free Image of the week. Your DL will increase espeicially for that Image after it is not available as Free Image. I had 2 Downloads in a week from the first on DT after it was not free anymore. Before that it had only 4 Downloads over almost a year.

Jan

The lag time at DT was about 3,5 month. At IS 6 weeks, although now it looks like it takes longer at IS

I had my first Print sale there and got $25 so having a good month - definitely better than last month.

Looks like December will be my best month yet, about 10% over last month. Although, I am anticipating a slowdown with the holidays ahead....

yeah things are starting to look really good there.  They were actually my top earner for much of december.  I am looking forward to the new price increase :)

perhaps other sites will follow suit... it has been a while since any price increases at shutterstock!
