Well I took the advice of many contributors here and a coupla weeks ago started uploading to FT again.  I must say I have been pleasantly surprised, and with only 120 images in my portfolio so far I have achieved 15 sales in just over a week.  A good start I think.

Those 15 sales put me at something like 1367th place over a week.  That's a useful number as it tells me that there are 1366 other photographers who got more than my number in the week.  It also talls me that FT are making healthy sales.  But it doesn't tell me how much others are doing.

Can the contributors in this forum give an indication of their placing over a week and how many downloads that represents.  It would be useful for me to know that, say, 50 downloads is position 766 or something, and 100 downloads is position 250 or whatever.

I found that EL sales have a major influence on your weekly ranking.  My weekly ranking on average is around 390, but varies from about 800 to my best of 36th for the week.  The high ranking of 36 was last month when I had several EL sales at 50 credits each.

Ranking is on gross sales value.

So one sale at $50 will rank higher than 49 sales at $1.

I am rank 1106 for the past 7 days (17 sales). 3308 overall with 77 total sales. Yes Fotolia is a decent seller for me, but less than Dreamstime, and StockXpert is catching up.

I had a question regarding EL sales. Mine are at 25 credits... is that too low? Is 50 credits the average? I don't seem to get that many EL sales while others seem to have them on a weekly basis. My all time and weekly rankings are quite good too (around 100).

I had 40 DLs in the past 7 days, which places me at number 374 on the list. With 229 total sales, my overall ranking is 1581. I have 674 images online at DT.

Update: My ranking jumped up to 357 - same no. of DLs and portfolio size. 232 total sales.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Sharply - your 40 a week gives me something to aim for, and it seems that there is lots of potential above that given your ranking.  That's comforting because it shows FT are actually making the sales.

Kosmik - can you share with us roughly how many downloads in a week get you to 100th position?

hatman12: I'm very surprised that a mere 40 DLs gets that high a ranking - makes me think there aren't too many people making money using FT.

Last week was by far my best at FT. I'm normally at something like 25 DLs per week: FT is a steady but minimal income generator for me. Revenue has been more-or-less steady at a meager 10c/file/month. I've been on it for 94 days and have only had 230 DLs. To be fair, I stopped uploading there for a couple of weeks because of the low payoff, but then decided to continue with it.

I'm still not altogether sure that it's worth my time posting there - the interface is slow and clunky, and they're overly picky about the images they accept. I have higher acceptance rates, and make much more money, with my other sites.

With one EL this week, I'm 515th on the 7-days ranking, with 8 sales (including the EL).  I'm not sure if it was my best ranking, but possibly one of my best.

I wonder if this ranking consider all Fotolias or only the one you're a member of?

Adelaide

I counted roughly 80 dls last week.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Kosmik - your 80 downloads producing 100th rank is interesting.

I know that over at IS the top ranked people sell somewhere between 500 and 2000 images per week.

So that makes an interesting comparison between the two agencies.

Nonetheless, if FT can sell 80 images a week from your portfolio, that's 400 a month and shouldn't be sneezed at.

7 day - 2103  Overall - 1105

Only 5 sales in the last week.

I have 238 images on there, and its not what I'd call 'strong' stock stuff.

Ranking now at 336 after a few small sales and 1 EL (all mine are priced at 50 though I thinkthat was only my second EL).

As I understand it, rankings refer to the day before, so today I got a better position than yesterday because yesterday I had 5 sales.  So I am 486 in the 7-day ranking, with 9 sales from April 11 to 17, and 12 sales from April 10 to 17 (I guess the first is the correct account).  I had one $35 EL sale in this period.

Adelaide

They are updated daily so depending on when you look at it, it could be 1min or 23 hours old.  I dont know what time it updates.
