Hi Guys,

I have question.  Last night I visited Fotolia V2 (www.fotolia.com) and created an account as I am just getting started in shooting Micro stock.

Anyway... I didn't think about it at the time (as I-Stock wants you to upload a copy of your driver's license) but when I was I completing my account information, there was a section there that asked for my SSN number.

I put it in there but now I am kind of scared that I shouldn't have given it out -- what with ID theft and everything.  Shocked

Does anyone else think that is kind of weird for a stock agency to ask that question?  Huh

Yeah, I don't like it either. I think Fotolia should only ask for that type of information when one of their photographers/illustrators goes over the six hundred dollar threshold. I say six hundred dollars because that is when a company is required to file a form to the IRS. Thus, they would need your SSN for that documentation. At least, I think that's how it works.

I don't mind the sites requiring that I send them my SSN number, because it's necessary for tax purposes.

However, with regards to Fotolia I have a serious problem with the fact that our SSNs are submitted over an unencrypted connection and then actually stored on our profile page for any hacker to find.  This has been brought to their attention numerous times, and I had hoped with v2 this would change, but it hasn't, so in the next few days I am going to close my account.  It's been five months now since they were first made aware of the problem, so there is no way am I going to continue doing business with them anymore.
