Topic: Has Fotolia decreased photographer's commission ?

(Read 1564 times)

I have been receiving 0.39 $ for an XS size for a long time when suddenly I sell an extended license and receive only 36 $ instead of the usual 39 (all my Extended license images are set at 100 $) After looking back a couple of pages I noticed that I was actually getting less than I used to since the beginning of March.

And No I'm not talking about subscription sales, they remain at 0.33, I'm referring to XS size and above where my cut used to be 39% and now it seems to have declined to 36 %

Has anything happened that I'm not aware of ? Was there a notification or something ?

Thanks, Ljupco

Worst deal of all is if you had images exclusive to FT before 1st March (earning 50%) and after 1st March (not having signed their Total Serfdom Exclusivity Agreement), your same images get only 30something percent).
Not to mention the credit price of 60p on the UK site = 20p for the contributor that isn't into total serfdom.

Good morning. I wish you were there to back me up when I showed my displeasure on fotolia forum. Apparently people only use it to say "fotolia rocks"

My bad!

Yeah these outfits have funny ideas about what the word "forum" means, don't they?

Individuals are singled out. That's why there is a need for a specific microstockers alliance or trade union, that can voice concerns as these with more impact.

Flemish dreams. Let's put our ideas together. That really is what we should do. I will do my best for a contributors movement. I have had enough.

I just posted more details on the thread that I started.

Well, I didn't have enough. Actually, I like most sites very much. But there are still issues that can be taken up with more impact by a structured group than by individuals. Look how fast Leaf got a meaningful reply from the SAA, since the MSG is starting to score very high on Pageranks. Yuri Arcurs mentioned the idea before. I figure Arcurs and Leaf could do it if they feel support for the idea.

I was happy with all the sites, including fotolia. The sales are steadily going up there, I found the support kinder and faster than before. They had so many changes last year that I mentioned in my posts. I was eventually ok with all of them but this last one, - reducing our commissions - is hard to digest.

Subs: Yes, we don't like them but most sites have them. Best model is IS when it comes to subs. We get a better share of subs sales on IS.
Ranking: For the first and last time, may be acceptable.
BUT reducing commissions: Is a very bad sign for what the future holds there for us.

Cancel this last change and I am happy with this industry. On the other hand, regardless if we are happy or not, we need a union.

I got some inside info from one of the non-top5 sites and believe me, they are bleeding badly by the crisis. Some business decisions probably have to be made to survive. Keeping the infrastructure up, one fulltime programmer, one staff, the boss, and then the largest cost = reviewer fees.

"83,539 new stock photos added this week" (SS) = 300,000 per month, say 40% rejections = 420,000 x 20ct (average) per review = a monthly cost of abt 80,000$ without the marketing. Maybe Fotolia was forced to do it but they didn't communicate why since competitors are reading forums too.

FT forum is a place to points things out, ask questions and express grievances but only after a good dose of valium. It is the place to get 'your card marked' or banned depending on the vehemence with which you express yourself. There is no freedom of speech there and complaints will rarely change anything that management has already decided upon. Except in a few rare instances, it's pointless to post there so I don't.

Thanks for the answer. Haven't got the time to check the boards or read the Newsletter lately. Guess all the agencies carry on with their policy of not listening to the photographers. Such a shame !!!
