Title: Important Fotolia Announcement
Post by: MatHayward on November 05, 2018, 07:03
Hello everyone,

I have important news to share with you. One year from today on November 5, 2019 Fotolia will close.

What does this mean for you? If you have already synced your Fotolia account with Adobe Stock then you are all set. No additional action is required on your part. If you have not synced your Fotolia account with the Adobe Stock Contributor portal, now is the time to do so. Go to https://contributor.stock.adobe.com and create or sign in with your Adobe ID. You will be asked if you are a Fotolia contributor and then prompted to sync your account.

Beginning February 5 contributors will not be able to submit new content through Fotolia. All new uploads must happen via Adobe Stock starting on that date. You will however still be able to access Fotolia with your login credentials to view your sales history, the tax center and to submit payment requests should you prefer to do so up until November 5. After that, there will be no access to Fotolia in any capacity. Your content will still be online at Fotolia up until November 5 so customers can continue to purchase licenses to use your work through Fotolia. As always, any commissions earned through Fotolia sales will be paid immediately into your Adobe Stock Contributor account.

You will find additional information including how to sync your account here: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/contributor-fotolia.html

There are many advantages to using the Adobe Stock Contributor portal. You can edit keywords and titles on approved content. Free access to Adobe Portfolio where you can share custom collections created in the Adobe Stock Contributor portal along with your non-stock work, Adobe sensei generated auto keywords, auto title and auto categories to streamline your indexing process, contributors outside the US paid in USD can receive payments through Payoneer, top 10 contributors of the week displayed to show you what type of content is in demand from customers in real time, Creative Cloud members can upload to Adobe Stock through Lightroom Classic, Adobe Bridge and Premiere Pro CC. There are many new and exciting features being developed. Migrating everyone to one site will allow us to focus more on Adobe Stock development to provide these new features faster than ever.

I’m sure you have many questions. I will be checking the forum frequently and will do my best to answer them in as timely a manner as possible.

Kind regards,

Mat Hayward

What will happen to our ranks?
Title: Re: Important Fotolia Announcement
Post by: msg2018 on November 05, 2018, 07:13
Hi Mat,

some questions:

1) No FTP on Adobe for photos?
https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/uploading-content.html

2) Why is Adobe in my local language? I want to use it in English, no matter where I am at the moment

Thanks

What will happen to our ranks?

You will retain your rank. The rank determines the royalties for Fotolia credit sales and the minimum payout for large subscription packs on Adobe Stock.

You can upload photos via ftp. Click the upload icon in the upper right corner of the portal. Under the blue upload circle is a link that says "learn more." Click that to view your ftp login information.

You can change the language displayed by scrolling to the very bottom of the portal. The lower left link allows you to change the region and language displayed for that login session.

Thank you.

Fotolia credit sales will no longer exist after November 2019, right?

Will we still retain our ranks after that for minimum payout determination of large subscription packs on Adobe Stock?

Thanks for the update Mat

1. Will out rank be displayed on AS as it is in FT now?

2. With FT we see more higher value sales from credit sales... these tend to be a lot more than the £3.30 max mentioned in the Royalties link below. Will we see an increase in royalties by way of additional Credit Packs being made available to clients?
https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/royalty-details.html

3. Sort of connected to the above. When DPC was closed, a lot of clients felt they received very poor service and felt badly treated overall. A lot of angry posts in the forums etc at that time. Will Adobe be looking to help them migrate over to AS a bit better this time by providing them similar options as they currently have now.

4. Receiving emails about syncing data. As far as I was aware I was already syncing data with AS. Already submit most of my work via AS portal. Are these just generic requests or do we need to sync again?

5. Will AS continue the the 0.75 conversion of $ credits to UK currency afterwards?

Mostly happy by the prospect of merging but just a bit concerned about the loss of credit earnings from FT.

Thanks

Yes, that is correct. A year from today Fotolia will be closed to customers and contributors.

Yes, you will retain your rank to determine the minimum subscription commission amount.

Thank you for your feedback. You can already see your rank in the Adobe Stock Contributor Portal. Click the contributor account link at the top. Your rank is the very last line item on that page.

Credit packs are currently available at Adobe Stock in addition to the subscription options: https://stock.adobe.com/plans#plans-vs-credits

Regarding the migration process, we have a very strong team working hard to make the process as seamless as possible. I anticipate a well organized transition.

If you are receiving an email about syncing. Is it possible you created an alternate account at Fotolia and didn't end up using it? If so, that's like the cause. Regardless, if you are already synced with Adobe Stock you can disregard any notification encouraging you to sync now.

I'm not aware of any changes to currency or conversion at this time. If I hear something I'll be sure to post here in MSG.

Thanks again,

Mat

1. Sorry, should have been clearer about rank. I meant the Weekly / Overall rank. Will that be migrated over?

2. Thanks for that link.... do each of those credit pack sizes result in different royalties for contributors? Just on the royalties page I linked it says "Credit packs 5 pack-500 pack   $7.99-$9.99  Flat rate of $3.30 for contributor" Not sure if that is an outdated link or whether it is still accurate about the flat rate of $3.00

3. Excellent, it costs far more to gain new clients than it does to keep existing ones.

4. I do have an old adobe user ID from before I submitted work but the emails I've been receiving aren't connected to that old id (it has no contributor status set up on it).

Thanks again

It's too bad that it's closing. I think Fotolia has the best contributor interface compared to all microstock sites. I don't like adobe.

Very bad news. Good bye nice big credit sales (netting me $9 or $12 for high res) that rescued the constantly falling earnings.

The hard earned ranking will be irrelevant as well. Now I am Sapphire with 40% and will go down to 33%. This is reality.

PS: I like and respect Mat, he is a great and helpful guy. Sorry for him he must bring such a depressing news. Don't shoot the messenger.

Is this just coming up on everyone's page or does it mean that something isn't actually linked?

I echo the others with regard to the interface and weekly position. The weekly rank gives something to focus on and improve, which is great in an industry that often leaves you feeling demotivated.

1.) The weekly/overall position feature will be added to the contributor portal sometime in the months to come. It will definitely be in place before Fotolia is closed.

2.)I am not aware of other payment options for credit pack standard license purchases for core content at this time.

3.) Yes, very true.

4.) That likely explains the emails you are getting. You can email me offline ([email protected]) and I can fix that for you so you don't receive emails for your inactive account any longer .

Yes it shows for everyone and I clicked to see what happens, nothing that I could tell, just took me to the https://contributor.stock.adobe.com/en/portfolio pages.

There's a HIDE^ button upper right. The Sync now disappears. Merging learn more still shows up top.

fotolia didn t send 1042-s  tax form to contributors - so we used tool statistics with withholding tax  amount for each year (plus cradits earned in us) - to get back our money from iris - is this "tool statistic" available on AS - if not - will AS start to send us 1042 tax form  for each year like ALL other stock sites

If I hit "snyc my account" and take me to ASC page, with all my photos, LIFETIME EARNINGS, AVAILABLE EARNINGS, My Statistics grapf ect., same like on FL_page,
I think, that it is it...I done

Yes or No

What about indexing?

However, the ASC site is much less useful than the FL contributor page _ for now I hope...

You can only sync one time (the first time) so if you had already done so then what you just did was create a new account with a different Adobe ID. Please send a ticket to support and we can delete that account for you.

fotolia didn t send 1042-s  tax form to contributors - so we used tool statistics with withholding tax  amount for each year (plus cradits earned in us) - to get back our money from iris - is this "tool statistic" available on AS - if not - will AS start to send us 1042 tax form  for each year like ALL other stock sites

Yes, these statistics are available in the Insights tab.

Yes. It sounds like you have successfully synced.

Using the Adobe Stock Contributor portal, we can edit keywords and titles on approved content.

But it is not easy to reach a specific file for editing it, because there is no search tool.

It will be very helpful for the contributors to have a search tool which will work with the Adobe Stock file ID, so please include this feature in the next website update

The keywording Adobe tool needs to include copy and paste of blocks of keywords (Preferably in a box field). Right now it is one by one which is slow and painful. Fotolia has this before upload and this needs to be implemented before and after upload to streamline contributor file preparation and maintenance.  Thank you!

This feature is in place already. When looking at the individual keyword boxes look just above the top box and click the link that says "paste keywords." That opens the main keyword box you are looking for.

I'm getting a 'sync your account now' banner across the top of my Fotolia page with information and a link to 'sync my account'. I'm pretty sure I did this some time back, and can login on the Adobe stock page, so I guess I can ignore this?

Is this just coming up on everyone's page or does it mean that something isn't actually linked?

I echo the others with regard to the interface and weekly position. The weekly rank gives something to focus on and improve, which is great in an industry that often leaves you feeling demotivated.

Yes, I believe the Fotolia message is universal for all accounts. If you have already synced, you can disregard.

We will be adding the overall/weekly position stat to the Adobe Stock Contributor portal as soon as possible.

Hi Matt,

I use my Fotolia account to occasionally purchase licenses as well for projects (web developer). Can you tell us if our purchased license history will show in Adobe? Currently it does not.

As well, I can license content through my Fotolia account without buying a monthly plan and just do one-off purchases using my earnings balance. Will this be included in the future at Adobe or will I have to open a separate buyer account?

Regarding purchasing content with your commissions via Adobe Stock, no that is not possible at this time. You will need to create a customer account through stock.adobe.com.

Mat, some suggestions for improving the Adobe Stock Contributor portal:

- for displaying my own portfolio I would prefer a list view as on Fotolia ("My files"), showing columns for date uploaded, views, sales and total earnings per file (the latter is not available on Fotolia but would be great to have).
- On dashboard and Insights, the graph on top shows data for weeks. I would much prefer to see months instead. Possibly that could be made configurable, so that everybody can choose what they want to see. Also, exact numbers are missing on the graph for downloads and earnings per data point (could be done as a mouseover).
- While Insights allows to select any timeframe for statistics, you always need multiple clicks to get any result. Would it be possible to display some useful numbers (e.g. downloads and earnings for the current day, current week and current month) as default on the page? Or make that configurable also.
- You do support making our own collections, but they are lacking some basic functionality, like displaying statistics (number of downloads and total earnings per collection). Also, adding files to collections doesn't really work well without a search function within the list of own files.

While some of these are not available on Fotolia, it would be great to see them implemented.

Thanks!

Mat Hayward

Thanks Mat, I'm wondering what this means as a Fotolia Subscriber as well. I've got a herd of credits chilling in there.

1. I would like a clear, fast navigation. At the moment navigation on the site is a pain in the a....

Once you leave the so called dashboard, which contains nothing but a graph and the portfolio, you are lost on the site. There is no coming back, say from the portfolio to dashboard or indexing or anywhere else.

At least, I would like to have more links in the dropdown right at the top, near my name, visible on all pages and why not more menu links in the sidebar, like in FT.

I spent four hour last night to get used to the interface and I had to bookmark certain pages to be able to come back to them.
I found out accidentally that if I double click an image in the portfolio I can edit (index) the image. Why not put a rightclick menu or a tooltip there, so people don't waste their time searching for features.

2. A detailed FAQ or support center for contributors would be helpful too. Right now the FAQ at the bottom of the page answers just a few questions.

This is the worst agency as far as usability concerns and all this was done in more than two years.
How can we expect something better in just a few month?

I prefer Adobe for uploading and submitting but when it comes to looking at data, account activity, FT is better.

The space at the top between "Lifetime Earnings" and "Available Earnings" is dead space at the moment. Things like weekly activity, Weekly Rank and Overall Status could occupy that Space. The text size also seems slightly to big and has to much space around it. That space could easily occupy a dropdown navigation menu to in addition to the other metrics. This would then be available to see/use no matter what page you are on.

The lefthand column used for entering dates for the graphs also takes up way more room than it really needs to. Acres of space around the day and year. The month is also displayed as "November", numerical would give you more space in the main content column with potential for some additional space for a menu on the right if needed.

At the moment, it has the feel of items being oversized in order to fill the page rather than looking to add the additional data / pages to the space that is left. The dashboard is basically two rows (below the header), graph and portfolio. A dashboard to me is something that contains all the key data in one place. An overview. And from there you can visit other pages to flesh out the headline figures / information. Should contain, Daily / Weekly & Monthly overview of sales and work submitted and accepted with your position at the agency. There could be links to additional community information such as a blog, maybe headlines of the latest articles etc. Basically, the hub, the centre of the contributor experience but at the moment..... it's two lines.

These are just thoughts, others will have different ideas. I will add that I do like like the upload and submitting process at AS, it is very good. I'm sure the AS team will get there but they need to get there running shoes on if they only have a year  ;D

Could this be added to the list of development priorities?  Most other sites enable and encourage it and the current fotolia system is direct and clear (although a discount for contributors would be even better!). A lot of us are contributors, customers and Creative Cloud users and it's helpful when everything works together.

I too.
I always submit my images via ftp
Then I manage them (description and keywords order) with AS
But for everything about reading data I use FT.

Something that I find very "heavy" is the fact that none of these two sites remember the settings.
For example, I want that if I set "show earning, from date 1 to date 2" I will find the same settings the next time I open the page.
In Adobe when I go to see my earnings it always proposes me "From November 6 2018 to August 6 2018"
(From November 2018 to August 2018!!! lol)
Come on Adobe!!! It is not that complex to do.

It's too bad that it's closing. I think Fotolia has the best contributor interface compared to all microstock sites. I don't like adobe.

I completely understand your position. Please allow me to take off my Adobe hat for a moment and speak as a contributor only I can tell you with 100% honesty that I started out resisting the portal also. I continued to submit through Fotolia and to check all of my sales history (my email notifications are off) through Fotolia for months and months after the portal was launched.

Over time, as new features came in I started to dip my toes into the portal a little more. The big change for me came when the "paste keywords" box was added. This gave me everything I needed to start submitting through the portal since the drag and drop setup was/is basically perfect to upload. I don't use the auto-keyword feature however the auto-category is another feature that has saved me a lot of time. Even if it's only a few seconds to pick a category, those seconds really start to add up when working in high volume. When I add my keywords in the metadata before uploading it is literally a two click submission process for everything (unless I need to add a release) and is as fast and simple as any agency workflow out there.

I strongly encourage you to create a new batch of images and try submitting through Adobe Stock from start to finish if you haven't done so in a while. Like anything new, there is a learning curve and it will take some time to get used to. I get it, change isn't fun. That being said, I feel confident that if you give it a chance you will find the system is reasonably easy to navigate and who knows? Maybe it will become your favorite UI.

I promise you 100% that I use the portal on a regular basis as a contributor and I have no illusions it is perfect. I provide VERY candid feedback about ways in which it can be improved. Now that I'm used to it however I never go back into Fotolia for my work as a contributor.

OK, putting my Adobe hat back on.

Sooooo .... who's contributed right from LR before? Is there a tutorial somewhere? That might motivate me to actually get back into the game.

My friend Terry White has a tutorial on this very thing featured in KelbyOne: https://lightroomkillertips.com/upload-directly-adobe-stock-lightroom/

It's fairly straightforward. To use this feature you must be a Creative Cloud member (free to all contributors with over 300 approved files in 2018). The Adobe ID you use for your CC membership must match the Adobe ID your contributor account is set to.

Provided the above is true, you can access the Adobe Stock upload feature through your LR publish panel. Drag the file into the publish panel and the files are uploaded to your stock account. You can even drag RAW files if you prefer, the system will convert to JPG for you automatically.

It's important to note, this is only viable in Lightroom Classic right now. Lightroom CC does not support this feature yet.

Go to https://contributor.stock.adobe.com (https://contributor.stock.adobe.com) and create or sign in with your Adobe ID.

You will find additional information including how to sync your account here: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/contributor-fotolia.html (https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/contributor-fotolia.html)

Mat Hayward

Thanks Mat, I'm wondering what this means as a Fotolia Subscriber as well. I've got a herd of credits chilling in there.

@dallasp you should be able to find the answer you are looking for here: https://www.fotolia.com/Info/Faq/Closure (https://www.fotolia.com/Info/Faq/Closure)

I did not sync yet but i see my photos in adobe stock site. Do i have to sync from Fotolia site now or was it already synced before?  ???

Regardless of whether you ever synced or not, your approved content was online at both Fotolia and Adobe Stock automatically.

You will need to sync your account if you haven't done so already to submit new content after February 5 and to access any of your information after November 5 next year.

Mat, what if someone is few hundreds downloads for next rank, as you answered we can still go up in rank, but where can we see our progress (how many downloads left for next rank) on adobe stock site?

You can see your total downloads on top of the home page (Dashboard). You can view your current rank in the "contributor account" section at the very bottom.

Other than view statistics and the weekly position, what specific feature are you referencing that is available at Fotolia and not Adobe Stock?

-Mat

I appreciate your feedback and can assure you the team will read your comments.

Regarding your first note..if you click the Adobe Stock icon in the upper left corner that will take you back to the Dashboard.

There is a very detailed collection of learn and support pages linked at the bottom. The direct link is here: https://helpx.adobe.com/support/stock-contributor.html

Thanks for the feedback!

Ha Ha! Yes, you are not alone. Change can be scary and I understand how the industry can leave you feeling a bit jaded. That being said, I would encourage you to look at the changes we have added recently...we increased the minimum payment amount for all contributors, we have distributed thousands of codes for free Adobe Creative Cloud accounts to contributors, provided free access to Adobe Portfolio and more.

We have an entire team dedicated to the success of contributors positioned around the world. Our only job is to ensure that contributors have the tools you need to succeed.

Regarding purchasing content with your commissions via Adobe Stock, no that is not possible at this time. You will need to create a customer account through stock.adobe.com.

Could this be added to the list of development priorities?  Most other sites enable and encourage it and the current fotolia system is direct and clear (although a discount for contributors would be even better!). A lot of us are contributors, customers and Creative Cloud users and it's helpful when everything works together.

I will make a note of this however I think it will be a bit more difficult to activate. The feedback is appreciated.

[…]

Solid point and great feedback. The backward date thing in particular needs to change. We did fix the date range you list to reflect either order listed. As you may recall you had to put the recent date first and the older date second. Now it does not matter which order you list.

Hi Matt,

Just about got my head round all this and thanks for all the info so far which has been most helpful.
Quick question ......when using my Iphone or Ipad, Im not able to get into my Adobe Stock Contributor account to check sales/portfolio, etc. I can get in, but can only see limited info.
Any idea when it will be possible to check sales etc? Are they developing an app for this and when might it be available?
Soon hopefully.

Not sure if you're looking for feedback from video contributors about their needs or are asking more generally about a contributor app for stats information.

If you're asking about an app for stats in general, have you looked at Shutterstock's contributor app for phones (iPhone & Android) and tablets? It's not perfect, but it's useful. There are many, many stats that Adobe doesn't currently have anywhere - like total sales in $$ and units for a given image - and some nice little extras such as telling you when an image sells for the 100th time, or 1st time, which is both useful and fun information to have.

You want access to sales stats, recent acceptance/rejection of images. Viewing your portfolio and any collections. Searching for an image in your portfolio. Shutterstock lets you upload content too although I don't upload that way so have no insights to offer.

It'd be good to have the browser interface on a desktop have all these features too - that's had so little work done since "Insights" was added. You can't get a monthly list of sales in $$ and downloads simultaneously, for example - my huge monitor with tons of space for more information and I see one type of information at a time (and the downloads total is shown with $$ signs in front which should be a simple fix)

There are many customers who will not download a file if it does not meet a certain file size requirement they have in mind. You are welcome to upload downsized files however doing so will likely limit your potential customer base so I still recommend you submit the full resolution file.

OK, I read through the thread (quickly, so I may have missed it). When I upload, the default setting seems to be to set the price at the lowest level. This is part of why I upload via fotolia vs adobestock, so I can adjust the price level up to my current level. Why is this not automatically default to the higher level since we've theoretically received the "raise". Is this going to be an issue when I have no choice but to upload to Adobe directly?

If you aren't planning to provide an app, can you at least work with the group that provides the Microstokr app so we can check our stats/sales via their app? I get my numbers from them now through my Fotolia account, but Adobe Stock is not even on the table for their app for some reason.

There are no price variations available at Adobe Stock. The cost is the same across the entire collection for a consistent customer experience. The price flexibility you have referenced is only in regard to credits based purchases at Fotolia. If you submit a batch of images through Adobe Stock and would like to have the prices increased for your credits based sales at Fotolia you are welcome to submit a request through the Adobe Stock Contributor Portal and we can take care of that for you in a bulk change. It's important to note that any files that hav,e gone 6 months or longer at Fotolia without a sale are not eligible for the price increase.

Regarding Microstockr, this is referenced in the FAQ I linked in the original post. You will need to contact them directly as we are not affiliated in any way. As a reminder, you can upload directly on the Adobe Stock Contributor portal using drag and drop, or through FTP. We also support direct uploads from Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC and Adobe Bridge.

Thank you,

Hi Mat,
I'm encountering a problem :
- I have two Fotolia accounts : one on Fotolia US and another one on the French site.
Why ? Because 10 years ago i started to sell on the US site then I decided to continue on the French one because 1$ = 1€, so it's much more interesting for me (as I'm French) to sell there.
- Now I have synchronized my French Fotolia Account with Adobe ....OK !
- But how can i Synchronize my old Fotolia US account who is still give me some gains ? Long time ago i've asked to Fotolia to join the 2 Accounts and they told me it was impossible...
-Another question : after the closing of Fotolia, will the earning will stay in € for old European accounts ?
Cos there is a huge difference of earnings (20% more) corresponding of the higher cost of life there, if we are losing this with the switch to Adobe, it's just unfair !
Thanks for your help, maybe Im not the only one in this case .

You were told correct. We are not able to merge multiple active accounts. You will need to sync your US account with a different Adobe ID if your intent is to keep it active. There is not a workaround for this other than deleting the old account and resubmitting the content for a new review.

There are no planned changes to currencies paid in different zones that I am aware of.

Mat its about time you guys develop a app for AS.

...I'm the content lead for Video on Adobe Stock and would love to hear what you would need for an application.  I'm assuming you're talking mobile, but let me know if I'm wrong?  What are the main pain points and what should an application accomplish to address them?...

Yes a contributor app that shows total sales for an image, maybe upload from the phone (unless Adobe doesn't really want phone photos), that notifies of sales... Or add sales total for any image to the "Insights"?

Everyone is so concerned about uploading process, mobile apps, which really are the matters of a secondary importance.
Let’s tak about real thing - money. Mat, what is your stance on Adobe decreasing commissions from 40% to 33% for high ranked contributors ? What do you think about depriving high ranked contributors of the privilege of setting price higher per image ? Everyday I get at least a few 10/20/30/40-credit sales (or so), soon these will be gone.

Use brute force, there is a Sign in to Fotolia in faint lettering on the front page, then sign in, if it asks for capture and there isn't one just ignore it and sign in again.

There is no simple answer to your question. At Adobe Stock the pricing for all content is the same to provide a consistent experience for customers. For stock buyers, finding the right content and making the purchase can be challenging.  At Adobe we do everything we can to ensure the most straightforward and simple process to find and purchase content is at Adobe Stock. We continuously strive to enhance the search and offer simple ways to purchase at competitive prices . Regarding the specific question about the commission rate, the commission has always been 33% at both Adobe Stock and Fotolia for subscription downloads. This has not changed since the launch of Adobe Stock. We are always looking for ways to ensure contributors are well compensated both in commissions and through added perks such as the free Creative Cloud subscription plans, free access to Adobe Portfolio, promotion of contributors through social media and Adobe blogs and tutorials and more.

My personal philosophy on this is that credits sales have been declining for several years now as the entire industry has evolved. I rarely see credit sales in my account already. There is a record volume of content available now at multiple agencies and most sites have shifted into a subscription based plan because this is what the customers want. I understand that many long term contributors (myself included) have benefited from the higher priced individual downloads with Fotolia credits in the past. I have found in my personal experience the way to maintain a steady income now is through consistently creating more and better content. Even with the decline of credits sales I have managed to increase my overall stock income year over year by creating and submitting new content on a regular basis.  I think this transition is best compared to the original introduction to microstock. I once sat in on a lecture from a stock photographer who was teaching about stock in general. This was not long after Fotolia had launched. During the talk he started to rant a bit about the absurdity of the microstock concept and that it would never last. I know countless photographers who profited greatly in the past by selling stock with rights-managed licenses for hundreds of dollars per license, the volume of sales was much lower but the sales price was much higher. Then came microstock and  the industry was completely disrupted. While many photographers protested, the reality is that the change was inevitable. What was generally accepted in the past, was not what customers wanted at that time. The industry has continued to change since then. For creatives to find success, we must also continue to change and evolve our business strategy.  What is the best way to do that? I can't answer that in a general statement. I know what works for me but that might be completely different for you. The consistent theme for success since the beginning of photography has been hard work, skill and creativity.

At the moment I do receive quite a few credit sales, good mix of smaller ones and some larger ones.

Ultimately, if all the smaller credit sales still happen in the future (i.e. the customers don't go elsewhere) and they were to licence the images from AS using credits, then we could make more money. You may lose out on some of the larger credit sales but, make extra from the smaller ones that now result in $3.30 compared to only a fews cents for the lower resolution images. Without being able to identify the credit sales in the raw data it's impossible to say whether that would be the case or not.

The only concern is whether the client, who was saving a few $ by buying a lower resolution image would be prepared to pay the higher price of the AS credits. If not, AS may lose the sale altogether as the client goes elsewhere. That wouldn't be good.

Separate question. At SS they have a team that makes deals with enterprise clients that result in higher licence fees. They can make a difference in earnings. Only takes a few $$$ fees to make a positive difference. Do AS do something similar or, plan to?

I emailed you about some random $ amounts that didn't match the AS page and weren't identified as S,M,L, XL credit sales etc. Did you get a chance to look at that? Would these continue after FT has gone?

Cheers

When I wanted to sign in, the new TOS showed up and didn't let me do anything before I agree. I thought it was the same for everyone on EU FT, here it is, updated on the 5th: https://eu.fotolia.com/Info/Agreements/TermsAndConditions (https://eu.fotolia.com/Info/Agreements/TermsAndConditions)

It was a long read and they show it all (not just the updates). I didn't pay much attention to the changes but I will read it again.

It seams that despite the merge, there are different term on AS and FT (or I didn't understand what they say):
Quote
After the Closure Date, for any Members that have uploaded any Work to a Website, unless you have entered into another agreement with Adobe Stock at contributor.stock.adobe.com (or successor website) these Fotolia Terms and the Upload Agreement will remain in effect and all Works will remain on our Websites and you will continue to earn Contributor Earned Credits, unless a Work is removed per the Upload Agreement or the Upload Agreement is terminated per the terms of the Upload Agreement.

Thank you,

Mat

If i understood correct every time when upload batch i have to request price increase. This looks to me unnecessary load. Will be very helpful to have opt in button for the price increase or some other way.

Request:
We need to be able to choose the video thumbnail.
Your auto thumbnail creation often picks the worst possible video frame.

Just look at your video pages. You often have a black thumbnail frame. Who is going to click on that?

I totally agree. I can't help but think Dennis will chime in as well and confirm the sentiment. This is a top request and I hope to see it implimented in the not-too-distant future.

-Mat

Oh boy do I agree!  Yes, this has been something I have been pushing on.  No timetable yet, but agree 100%.  My example is a fireworks clip that I shot while on vacation.  The thumbnail chosen was a black frame, as opposed to something that would have the color and vibrancy of the fireworks.

Hang in there with me - I'm advocating for this!

It's there, but even when you have a direct link to the contributor page in a bookmark (https://us.fotolia.com/Contributor) and are already logged in, you frequently get the page directing you to Adobe Stock.

You don't want to click the link to log in to Fotolia because it will do just that, try to log you in anew even though you're already logged in (and that means you have to log in twice because of the capture problem where it tells you to accept the hidden capture that has no check box to accept it)

If you just go to your contributor link a second time, you'll get to the contributor page.

This is all clearly buggy, but I doubt it'll be fixed given the site's on a path to the exit. As long as the workaround (load the page twice) says functional, it's manageable.

The reality is that for stats, contributors will go to Fotolia until there's something useful on Adobe Stock or Fotolia stats are shut down completely.

I'm trying to break myself of the habit going to fotolia.com to check my sales and keywork new clips, but it's really hard.  Like, quitting smoking hard.

Fotolia's interface, while dated, seems much more practical.  Maybe I'm just used to it, being a years-long user of it.

Plus, it feels like the Adobe Stock website is very sluggish, which is frustrating.

Anyone else notice the Adobe Stock website being slow?

Yes, very slow - assuming you're talking about the contributor interface. When I sit down in the morning to check stats on SS and then AS (I'm trying to break the habit of checking FT for stats so changed my bookmarks), I notice how much time it takes to load the AS "dashboard" versus SS's contributor dashboard.

Given how little information is in the AS interface when it loads, it really shouldn't take that long. Every day I notice that tiny (for me unreadable) number up in the top right corner which is the one piece of information I want to see first and clearly - current balance.

Then I go back to FT's interface (which requires two clicks on the bookmark as the first one always loads the "go to AS now" interface, and the second the requested FT contributor dashboard) where I can see weekly sales so far in $$ and downloads, current balance, weekly and overall rank all without any additional clicking on my part.

It's not that FT's interface is so great, but AS's contributor interface has virtually no useful information.

I've never smoked, so I can't make that comparison, but it's a bit like Google vs Bing for searches - why would you use Bing when Google's so good?

This is the part that bothers me.  Somehow my account got set to pay in pounds Sterling, even though I signed up on the US site in the US.  Now if I go to convert it pays a standard 0.75 pounds per credit.  The current exchange rate is 0.79 pounds per dollar, so I would lose 5% in that conversion, then would have to pay another fee to convert back to dollars if I actually want to use the money.  Can't we just change the currency for payout?  In my case it should be easy because I want it to just stay in dollars rather than convert at all.  I imagine there may be people who were working in Britain and taking payouts in pounds who may move to the continent and would want payment in Euros, especially after Brexit, so I assume I am not the only one who would like to change their payout currency.  That should be a very easy change to make programming-wise I would think.  Or at least use the current conversion rates so we don't take a big hit off the bat.

I just tried uploading with the new Adobe interface, and I like it very much. However, I cannot set the price for the ELs as I can on the Fotolia page from 30-100.

Mat, I know you have said in the past that we can write in and get this changed, but are we to write in every time we make a submission, or are you going to allow us to set a default amount somewhere?

The Extended license price is fixed across the entire collection at Adobe Stock. The price is $79.99. There is no need for the feature you have requested. While Fotolia is still active however, we can make the change to extended license prices for you. The most efficient way to  submit the request is to write us via the "contact us" link at the bottom of the Adobe Stock Contributor Portal. You can also open a ticket via Fotolia however our response time will likely be slower.

My own experience:

I switched my uploading habits recently and moved from Fotolia to Adobe Stock.
On Fotolia, I used to always set my EL price to the maximum possible (100).
If I look at my last uploaded images (uploaded via Adobe Stock), the EL price is set to 100 (without me requesting anything from support).
Somehow it seems to work how I want it  :)

I use fotolia because adobestock don't have thoses features yet. There's more info easily available at fotolia for contributor. My rank, (is it gonna stay ? I hope so), weekly rank, latest sold, best sellers ... etc ... I need those features and it's missing in adobestock.

You should be able to if you add every image to a collection. There isn't a way to do it as a bulk move right now that I'm aware of though it's a good idea.

You didn't find the Insights page, my statistics. Sales in order of latest, graph, earnings, downloads, activity. Pick dates to see month, daily, annual sales. I'd like to see sales for best seller and history totals for images like you. We need a sort for making collections and editing. What use does weekly rank do for sales or help?

I want weekly & overall rank to move over to Adobe Stock although I doubt they'll do that. Weekly rank in particular is very useful - if you have a great week and your rank doesn't improve, then it means the site was having a great week and the rising tide floated all boats, or at least  yours. If you have a lousy week and your weekly rank stays about the same, then the reverse - the site was down overall about as much as you were. And similar helpful guidance if your weekly rank tanks or skyrockets. Bottom line is that it helps you see the things you might need to do something about versus those that are site wide.

Like looking at last weeks weather to see what it will be like next week? I can see how you check if you are up or down as a site or personal but I can't see how watching the rank has anything to do with future sales or better income or what to work at. I don't think rank is very important for business. I want a search for editing, a way to see earnings by image and type of content, sales amounts. Patting my ego over rank is like counting how many photos do I have. Just a number.

While being logged in to Fotolia I opened an Adobe account and then synced.

https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/contributor-fotolia.html (https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/contributor-fotolia.html) states:

Quote
1. Go to the Adobe Stock Contributor portal.
2. Select Get Started to create an Adobe ID, or choose I already have an Adobe ID to sign in.
3. Select Yes, I’m a Fotolia Contributor to sync your Fotolia account. You will be prompted to enter your Fotolia login and password.

At no point I was asked if I'm a Fotolia contributor and they didn't ask for my Fotolia password. Is this to be expected because I was logged in to Fotolia? My Fotolia rank shows up in my Adobe Profile and my images seem to be there. Am I good to go or do I still need to contact contributor-support[]adobe.com

A note to myself (may be helpful to others, because I found it hard to find the correct login page to fotolia) https://www.fotolia.com/Member/Login (https://www.fotolia.com/Member/Login)

Yes, that information would be very helpful to see on Adobe Stock.

Here's where you can find Activity - Downloads, Earnings, Withholding (then selected by) Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Yearly. The bottom number is the start, the top number is current date. Then it shows what you selected and a graph. Below right is downloads, most recent on top and the commission paid for that download.

https://contributor.stock.adobe.com/en/insights

Yes I'd like some kind of a filter/search to find easier for editing keywords in my portfolio or for collections. That's  https://contributor.stock.adobe.com/en/portfolio

Data for individual files like total sales and total earnings would be helpful.

On the new adobe upload page, you are asked about 'recognisable property'. If you say 'yes', you are prompted to choose or upload a release, so what are you supposed to do with recognisable property that doesn't require a release?

It doesn't feel right to say 'no' to the question when there clearly is some recognisable property in the image.

Recognizable property requires a release. Answer yes and attach a release. If you are posting a picture of some unidentifiable patch of land in the middle of nowhere, don’t attach a release. Say no.

I agree with most but rank does nothing to me. I was 15,000 last week, I'm 14,500 this week, next week I'm 15,500 what important do I learn from that? Rank doesn't pay me any money. Rank doesn't show me whats selling. I want statistics and info on my images, money, sales, income, what download type.

What I am saying is that if I take a picture of The Houses of Parliament in London, everyone will recognise this as The Houses of Parliament, but I don't need a release for it.  Do I just tick 'no', or forego uploading that image because I couldn't get a release from The Prime Minister of England?!!  :D

Indeed. It would be better just to ask if you have or not releases. If you say no and they say you need it then it's okay... I wish Adobe Stock accept photos without releases. I knoe they are going to have editorial but something more news and photojournalism related, not actually "photos without release". My main income is from that :/

I have been sticking with the FT upload portal for exactly this reason - wasn't sure what to do about public buildings or other property that doesn't require a release.  There has not been a change in the review criteria when uploaded through FT so I assume we are to interpret "recognizable" as "recognizable that requires a release" unless they tell us otherwise.

I think I will also stick with the Fotolia interface until we have clarification on this point. I prefer not to answer questions inaccurately until we have a definitive answer, so I'll just let an inspector kick them back if they think a release is needed.

I will just leave it to the inspectors to bounce it back if they want a release.

I will just leave it to the inspectors to bounce it back if they want a release.

Location is sometimes relevant if you're on a private property or privately owned land, and take photos of subjects that can be linked back to this place, then you might need a property release from the owner.

But what appears on your photo is also affecting this - as Mat said. For instance, buildings can be copyrighted by the artist / architect / owner although their photo can be taken from public space. If they are, usually they can't be the main subject of an image but some copyrighted buildings are acceptable in skylines or cityscapes as long as they are with other buildings. It's really a case by case thing.

"So if we have a private house in the distance, but we took the image from a public position, we can simply click no to recognisable property?"
I'd say go for it if it's a home as the owner is unlikely to create trouble. If it's a known building design such as a modern house or a business, maybe double check online with its name.

There's also a few resources that work great together when you're not sure - you can search by location or building name with CMD+F or CTRL+F function:

On the new adobe upload page, you are asked about 'recognisable property'. If you say 'yes', you are prompted to choose or upload a release, so what are you supposed to do with recognisable property that doesn't require a release?

It doesn't feel right to say 'no' to the question when there clearly is some recognisable property in the image.

Yes, this is correct. Only click yes if the recognizable property requires a release.

The location you took an image from is irrelevant. The content of the image is what counts when determining if you need a release. Thanks for the links!

Interestingly, the Adobe one says 'Photos of the building exterior may be acceptable if taken from public property. Photos taken on private property, including the interior, are restricted'.

The image is a generic house in a landscape taken from a public place. Shutterstock and Istock have both approved it on this basis, but Adobe had requested a release.

I'm going round in circles with this one, so I guess I'll pass where Adobe is concerned.
