Fotolia just sent out an email with a couple changes.  Most people probably got it but it seems lots of emails get eaten up by the spam bots so here it is if you've missed it

Quote
Fotolia is offering you more ways to manage your portfolio.

In the next few days, you'll see two important changes.

First, you will have the option to exclude video files from subscriptions.

Second, the pricing of Extended license files is changing. Extended license files will now have a minimum price of 20 credits, and cannot be priced lower than the largest Standard license price offering.

For example, If the file price for a Standard XXL license is set at 24 credits, the price for an Extended license must be 24 credits or more.

We hope that you take advantage of these features as you continue to sell images on Fotolia.

Best regards,
Team Fotolia

Fortunately it doesn't look like anything negative which often seems to be the case as of late.  Essentially forced higher extended pricing and the option to remove video from subscription licenses.  Two welcomed things.

Thanks Leaf, haven`t received the mail neither. Looks like good news and solves (somehow) the issue of the too low priced ELs.

Am I taking the wrong medication or what is happening here?

I've opted out my footage from the subscription program at least a year in August:
http://www.microstockgroup.com/fotolia-com/still-subscription-sales-for-footage-at-fotolia/msg274259/#msg274259

Even at that time is wasn't anything new.

What am I missing?

Sounds like two moves in the right direction.  Hopefully we can still price our ELs HIGHER than the minimum?  Mine are at 100 and don't plan to lower them.

Finally something good!
Who knows maybe one day I will start to promote more my Fotolia  portfolio if FT becomes place with better deal for us!

Hello? Am I living in some sort of twilight world?

Can anyone read my posts? Tyler, am I blocked for some reason?

Footage could be removed from subscription since over a year ago. That's not news.

Everyone of us could set their EL pricing as they wanted despite the fact the it was defaulted to 10 credits.

Why is this such welcomed news that FT is now increasing the default EL price to a level that none of us would choose in the first place either???

How is all that considered 'news'?

I think what's considered good news about it is that this is the first time Fotolia has announced anything in years that wasn't very clearly BAD news.  ;)

While I partially agree with that statement I wonder how we all would react if SS or any other agency informed us that the new EL pricing would be $24.

I still consider that EL default amount as an insult regardless of how low it was before and besides the fact that we always could change it to much higher values.

I might feel more positive about them if they make my portfolio visible to buyers again :)

I've got a message saying I need valid photo ID... is this new? I hate it when businesses feel the need to have a copy of my passport or DL before they'll talk to me. It seems dodgy.

And may even cheaper credits, or am I wrong?

Recent email from FT:

More Bite, Less Bark.
Double your credits!

Its a deal thats bound to make you drool! Buy credits from Fotolia.com, and get double bonus credits! Thats right you pay just 0.50 per credit!

Credits are a glorious thing use them to select any of our 19 million images, vectors and HD video footage clips.

Ready to fetch the offer?

"Ready to fetch the offer? "

Strange use of language! Dogs and people fetch stuff......."Fido fetch the ball"......."Fetch me my brown trousers, Hardy".........but fetch an offer, I've never heard of that?

(Maybe it's intentional. So that you remember it. ;D )

They've been collecting ID for years, once you reach a payout threshold where they have to report you to the IRS.

Wonder who is going to absorb the 50% hit?

I presume it will be us, unless something really has changed with FT.

I'm not a FT fanboy at all, but in this case I would say you're wrong.
FT has always payed out a fixed payout per credit. Essentially they are not paying a fixed royalty percentage on the sales price, but on the number of credits. There have been numerous discussions about that on here (because that means any currency conversions or different priced credit packages will lead to a payout different from the "official" percentage).
In such a case (they are giving away credits) that system means they effectively double our royalties on these sales.
As long as they stick to their current practice, but I haven't seen anything else in the last five years...

I think the threshold is $600.  If you aren't there yet, maybe they've changed something and are requiring it from everyone now?

s'ok, i took a shot with iPhone and uploaded it, not so painful.  The msg suggested that none of my files would be available for purchase if I don't supply my ID.
