Title: Make extra cash while helping other Shutterstock contributors!
Post by: Cider Apple on October 11, 2018, 17:27
I had an email today saying I'm invited (hand-selected) - don't make me laugh... to help other contributors with questions and I'll get paid for every person I help. Shutterstock have teamed up with Directly?

Anyone else?
Not sure what to make of this?
I never post in the forums? Must be via sales that they pick people?

I got a similar invitation.

It’s always nice to make extra money, but I would be helping other contributors get better and that can cut into my sales in the future. Decisions, decisions.

I’ll probably sign up just to see what kind of questions they have.

I got an invitation, but couldn't find anywhere (including the terms of service) how much you actually get paid. Not doing anything until I find out.

I got the invitation too. I couldn't find anything out about compensation either. Hiding what you get paid is never a good sign.

I read some of the blurb on Directly's web site  (https://www.directly.com/)and they're pitching to their customers (SS in this case) how they can cut their support costs while improving response times - saving 67% per ticket.

Couple Directly's pitch with the SS-specific video (I did watch it; it didn't say much of interest) which also didn't mention how much we'd be paid, and I figured they somehow think we'll do this for the love of SS and something minuscule in terms of payment.

Considering the trajectory of SS compensation to contributors - all these lower priced, lower royalty packages that effectively mean less per month for me over time - I'm not feeling I'd be the beneficiary of this transaction.

They want to keep investors happy with a better bottom line. They're going to have to go elsewhere to get help doing that. We've already "given".

What an insult to long time contributors.
They pay peanuts already and now they want you to train your replacement.

And did you notice how absolutely TERRIBLE the photos he posted with that article are???  My 85 y/o mother could have gotten better with her instamatic (before she passed)...!

Yeah! I have had plenty of those! and to put my keywords up for help. Just forget it!  desperation is setting in and they might just have woken up to the fact they are not getting much quality uploads, quality files.

They should instead go back to the old score and also set the old standard of 7 pics out of 10 to gain entry into SS.

However I am sure there are some noobs here who wants to earn a few cents to get people into the files and thereby create even more useless competition, unfortunately!

what a JOKE! this site is nowadays!

"4. Find a thrifty life partner"

holy crap, I stopped reading at this part. Very childish thinking. Not my cup of tea.

Yeah it reminds me of when you work on site some place and they get this new low paid newbie in and they want you to train him/her. Then its your sorry butt out the door since you cost too much to keep.  😐

How moronic that these outfits think we should help the competition for the feel good factor.

No doubt they'll be offering 4 cents per person helped or some other ridiculous amount.  All to compensate SS who can not be bothered doing any real curating.

Its certainly a very odd idea outsourcing your customer care which is of key importance to any business....just shows how highly "valued" contributors are.

Actually, this is a really useful article, i believe.
From comments on a picture's credits,
To disrespect of whatever person's work or ideas "beep this"
To learning the "media darling" term (never heard before!)
To proving once again that PP is an internet career pusher / builder.

Thanks for mentioning it :)

We run a pretty successful stock business! Funny enough we never got invited (would not have time btw), and all the "invites" who ever tried to help us was novices!

These days when we contact SS, we write in the first mail that we don't want help from the "affiliates"!

It simply doesn't make sense, that somebody on that level should help us out! Sorry to say it, but its only a way for SS to try and save some money (man power) by outsourcing this matter!

Regarding "Helping others to the top" as mentioned, I really can't see how that could be the case! The only one who can help anybody to the top is a really good photographer and a really good producer!!

Keep grinding boys and girls.

Best
Stefan
