I am aware that there is a post already floating about regards leavving dt exclusivity but this is slightly different  ;D

I am currently with dt and thinking of leaving exclusivity, i have been uploading a few shots to ss (but offline) and it seems that about 50-60% of my shots are getting accepted there out of the ones at dt.

i have nearly 1000 shots at dt so in theory i should have around 500 accepted at ss.

with only half the amount there would i see any money gains over being exclusive at dt?

my current earnings at dt range from $25 - $60 per month plus my 20c per aproved image (not loads but i'm always uploading new shots, around 30 - 50 photos per week)

obviously over time i'd be going to several other agencys but for now i would be concentrating on ss as that seems to be the key...

DT exclusivity  ;D Oh my!

If it was IS exclusivity it might be worth it for some people but DT :)

Leaving DT, (assuming you contribute to top and middle tiers) you can make at least 10 times more than what you are making right now :)

I only make % 4 of my earnings at DT.. Even If they paid me %100 royalties, they still can't make up for other sites..

I don't know hoe DT ever convinced anyone to be exclusive with them. No offense meant, and I'm sure it's probably a lot like istock where if you start with them, you're more likely to hold some loyalty to the company and might opt for exclusivity.

But financially speaking, you are undoubtedly limiting your earnings potential by staying exclusive with DT. By how much? Who knows. But I'd be willing to make a pretty large bet that you'd do much better as an independent.

You will definitely make much more spreading it about.

Having said that, the RPD on DT is very good comparitively speaking & much better as exclusive.  The big problem is the "Ds" are much less frequent as buyers can get images much cheaper elsewhere.  If we all went exclusive there the demand would have to follow the supply but I don't see that happening...

RPD on DT is good?  Ever since they F*!d with the search 2 or 3 months ago, my sales have dropped to about 30% and my RPD has fallen even harder - to about .86.

I have been a DT fangirl for years, but I don't have much positive to say about them right now.  Another great example of why NOT to be exclusive anywhere.  Agencies hold all the power and individually you mean nothing to them - and don't kid yourself, you will mean nothing to the other agencies either when you join them too.   If all of your earnings are at one agency and they make a litttle change you can lose a wild percentage of your earnings overnight.

Just think of how much money you could have been earning on other sites with their refused similars the past two years?

Also, someone will have to confirm this - but doesn't DT have an exclusivity clause that you can't participate in RM either?

So yes, phildaint - I would drop exclusivity and feel great about it.  It might take a couple months to get to where you want to be, but I am pretty sure you will benefit from the move.

"comparitively speaking"  ;D  It's about 3 times SS but 10% of the volume

Hey phildaint,

I think as has been said above, drop exclusivity and join the indies, no doubt. Back when I only had 500 images in my port at SS I was earning much more than 25-60 per month from SS alone. then add in many other agencies, some that work, some that don't and you'll no doubt find you are far better off.

My site http://www.microstockman.com has some more details on about 20 sites if your interested.

All the best with it, you won't regret the move  :)

Had you asked me a year back I would have given you dozens of benefits and reasons for independancy. Today!  well, with all the crazy, meaningless search-changes, bugs, glitches, this and that. Not so sure any of these alternatives are any good or beneficial.

Its all turning into one giant soup of c##p, really. :)

Freedom and more sales. Sales will also be more stable (it still is a rollercoaster ride!)

I was thinking you would need 6 months, not 1 month or have you ended it back in March?

The 6 month thing is just that if you are with them for longer than 6 month prior to leaving then you keep your bonuses etc Otherwise they take them back

It takes 1 month to leave :)

Boy is there something wrong here?

That formula is backwards because whatever you have at DT you will have at least 10 times that many at SS because they dont have the Too many similar rejections but it may be less than ten times that now because SS wont take BG's, has copyright rejections on shoes, no longer takes many fractals and then there is always the Duck! ;D

Back in the middle ages exclusivity was the only option and it worked fine. Today with 100 million images and same portfolios and internet based its hard to see exclusivity work with any agency.
