As linux user (ubuntu for the moment) I'm using only soft available under that platform. This excludes all the major application like lightroom or photoshop and also  the soft from nikon since these softs doesn't work on linux. My basic software used for the moment is :
darktable as raw converter and editing
picasa as library manager
prostockmaster (older version) used for tagging
eventualy:
luminance for hdr
gimp for special editing

Are there other linux users on this forum ?  And what is your workflow ?

Yes:-)

I use Digikam to import/download from camera and as catalog manager.
I use Wine to run Canon DPP and then process the resulting tiff files with Gimp.

Best regards
Morten

Linux user myself! I cheat though, I run CS4 in an XP virtual machine, and the XP system works better virtually in Linux than the actual hard drive installed version I have on my other partition. Go figure.

Are you using the latest unstable Darktable build? It's amazing, and very different from the stable release. I saw some videos of the mask selection tool they are working on. In my opinion, this one program could be enough to get more photographers to switch to Linux. Hands down the most professional image program I've been able to find for Linux. When the Gimp finally gets 16 bit support and non-destructive editing, I'm really not sure if I'll stick with Adobe or not.

I would like to stop using windows but haven't taken the jump yet.  There's too much free software that I like to dabble with that I can't get to work easily with linux.  I tried wine but that's too complicated for me.

Having tried lots of different Linux distributions, I have found PCLinuxOS to be the best.  Never had a problem with several different PC's.  Zorin is another good one, much more similar to windows than other distributions.

I might try running ReactOS inside Linux.  It looks like it can run most of the windows programs I use.

Take a look at AVLinux. It's a media optimized Linux distro. Built on the stable Debian release. Guaranteed to work and be solid.

I have been using Geeqie for entering metadata and viewing RAW files. Fastest RAW file viewer on the planet, seriously, I've never seen any other program debayer a RAW file at 100% as fast as that little program.

Dumped windows on my main computer.  Just installed Mint Debian.  Been using the ordinary version of mint on my netbook for a few months but thought I would try this one on the desktop.  Will spend some time adding all the programs I want and learning the gimp properly.

Windows - and Corel PhotoPaint - user for editing.

Linux user for uploading. An old netbook - that wouldn't be of any use anymore otherwise - with a special version of Ubuntu called Eeebuntu is perfect for FTPing at night: low energy consumption and especially very silent.

I have been on Linux for about eight years now. At first I used Suse and now Ubuntu's Long Term Support Versions. It's great to see how much progress has been made. Gimp is my main tool for photo editing. I still use Exifer under Wine for entering metadata. Fireftp or Filezilla for uploading. Picasa works well for indexing images. Gwenview is my favorite image viewer.
