Pricing a Product Shoot?

(1/2) > >>

I am in talks with a start up clothing line that needs product shot, 52 photos in all. Any advice on pricing out a bid? What would you charge to shoot 26 items with two shots each?

Thanks.

If they are very similar items, you could probably set up some sort of assembly line so it didn't take long to light everything.  Once it was set up, you could roll through the items relatively quickly.

I'd figure out a 'start up' price and then a price per item.   Editing could take some time though - especially if you needed to isolate on white and get rid of all the dust or lint on the items.  I'd probably price it at about a weeks work.  To get to that price, I'd do it like this.

What I want to make it a year = X
What I want to have as a wage per week : earnperweek = x/50
What I need to charge per week : chargeperweek = earnperweek * 2

I'd say 2 days max with 1 lighting set up.

I charge $250 per 4 hour session (min amount) plus gas mileage and travel time if off-site.

Guess it depends where you're based as well, and how much funding they have for this start-up. A New York start-up with plenty of cash to throw around wouldn't bat an eyelid at $100 an hour. Two dudes working out of their garage in rural Arizona might be hard pushed to scrape together $20 an hour.

And that's if you're in the US.

Your rates are your rates, so go with that... but it's always a good idea to factor in the likelihood of them being happy to pay those rates.
