Got this today...

We are sending you this email because you are selling Stock Images at The3dStudio.com and we are upgrading our site to offer more services to our contributors and customers. We have two important items to mention, please read this entire email!

400 pixel size announced

One of the most commonly requested items we get from customers is for a smaller image size so we are introducing a 400 pixel size starting with all images that are being added from November 2nd and on. The minimum (and suggested) price for this new X-Small size is $2.00 USD.

This should prove to be a very popular size and will give The3dStudio.com an edge as we ramp up our Stock Image business since customers can now buy a single image for $2.00 on our site. No goofy credits and no subscriptions needed!

All images that were added before November 2nd will AUTOMATICALLY be upgraded to this new size over the new few days. If you prefer to NOT sell your images added before 11/2/2009 at this new size then please contact us by replying to this email. By default, we will set the X-Small price to of the Medium price you have for each image.

Extended License option released

The second most popular request we get from customers is for an Extended License option that goes beyond the standard Royalty Free license we offer. So, we just released an Extended License option for all images being added from November 2nd and on.

Our Extended License is designed to give customers more options at a premium price. No more confusing licensing choices for the customer to pick as one Extended License fits all at The3dStudio.com.

With an Extended License the buyer may:

+ Use the image in print or electronically an unlimited amount of times.

+ Use the image in a physical item for resale or other consideration. i.e. photo used on a t-shirt, calendar, or greeting card for sale.

+ Use the image electronically in website templates, document templates, software products, wallpapers, screensavers, e-cards or similar products with no limitations regarding the number of copies and/or number of times image is seen.

All images that were added before November 2nd will AUTOMATICALLY be upgraded to this new Extended License over the new few days. If you prefer to NOT sell your images added before 11/2/2009 under this new Extended License then please contact us by replying to this email and we will not upgrade your products to the new Extended License. By default, we will set the Extended License price to $250.00 USD. The Extended License is optional on all newly added images as well, so you can decide if you want to offer this Extended License or not for each image you sell.

Thank you,
Matt Anderson - President

$250 for an EL is much higher than other micro sites, AFAIK. I'd be happy enough to set it at $100. $60 commission would still be 2x more than I get at any other site (and closer to triple what I get for most of them).

As for the 400x size, again, even at a $2 minimum price, that $1.20 compares very well with others. Here's how the competition stacks up (DT & FT can pay more than shown below, based on sales):

123: $0.34-$0.50
BigStock: n/a
DT: $0.32-$0.60
FT: $0.32
IS: $0.19-$0.30
SS: n/a
StockXpert: $0.40-$0.50

That's because other sites break it out so you don't need to pay more than what you have to.  Lumping it all together in a big charge for "convenience" doesn't seem that great of an idea to me.

Work on what the other sites charge, Istock EL = 125 Credits, I would have to Purchase 120 Credits + 10 Credits for 128.00.

At todays XE.com rates 128.00 GBP = 208.738 USD, yes they are 20% higher but their '3D asset buying' Customers seem to pay more, difference is from Istock a contributor would get maybe $40 - $80 based on canister, with The3DStudio.com any contributor will get $120+.
