Well perhaps I overlooked this before, I guess it was released 5 days ago or so, but I just saw it now.

Hot on the tail of Ellen's Microstock Money Shots book comes another microstock related book which is called, Taking Stock: Make Money in Microstock



This was was written by Rob Sylvan who is an inspector for iStock

have there been many books on microstock before ? there are a billion blogs etc but this is only the second that I've heard of.

Douglas Freer, who has vanished from the face of the earth, had one a while back.

I finished reading Rob's book last night - he gave me a copy at PSW.  If you hate iStock, you may not enjoy this book, because all the images come from IS, and there are lots of interviews and things from IS members.

It was a very easy read.  Rob has a very personal writing style, and it helps him to relate many of his own experiences.  He is very big on respect, from models to fellow contributors, all the while, being very realistic about expectations.  There are also tutorials about using Lightroom, Rob's speciality.

iStock, keepin' the people down!  Ya know.

I'm sure they will be no competition whatsoever. The tastes in the East are totally different from the tastes in the West, and that goes for men a women. They don't like "skinny" (slim) people to start with. Fat = attractive. Browsing through the local mags says enough. Looking at the TV ads says enough. Dieting is a weird concept, health is weird. You should eat as much pork as you can, preferably the fats. Lean pork meat is cheaper than the fat. A Filipino/a is obsessed with celebrities and glamor.
Shooting "business" for them is boring. Beach life? They don't grasp why anybody would like to move in a sun that fries you in 5 mins. Tanned is totally out, white is cool, so all the self-conscious girls move around with an umbrella in daytime. I could go on... Interiors? We would call it tasteless and kitsch but they love that style.

I've got both books from Amazon, Ellen's a few days ago and this one today.

Both are aimed at people with little experience in microstock. But they are very different.
