I'm not sure this is the right area to post it, but anyway.

I've opened an account with Art.com years ago and uploaded just four images.  It was not a very easy task, so many little details.  I never saw a sale, though once I received an email of someone wanting one of them and somehow it wasn't available, but then I read at their forum that other people received that too.  Later it became Artist Rising.

Anyway, today I logged in an found out I had one sale in September.  Just $3.60 (they set prices for prints and we get a 15% commission), but... hurrah!  Looking deeper... I had had three sales in December 2006 that I hadn't seend before - other $5.08.  Four sales in total, all of the same image.  Hmm, not bad, maybe I should resume uploading?  Watermarks are a problem there, though.  ImageKind lets me set my markups, but then I never sold anything there...

Adelaide

renewing old post...

I'm working with art.com almost two years. I tried with free account and uploaded allowable 16 images. Just a week ago I checked and found out that now free account can upload up to 50 images.

I think it is not a worst chance to sell some photos or graphic. I sold 156 posters at all. Biggest price was $19, average a few dollars per sell. With "portfolio of 16 images" it's kind of good result. On some microstock agencies you get less with hundred times bigger portfolio. This month I have 3 sells and earned more than on istockphoto with ~500 images...
I red in their forums that some contributors earn a huge amounts every month.

By now I'm uploading full 50 quota and perhaps will upgrade to full membership. Full member can upload up to 2000 images and can possibility to set up Fine Art sells.

art.com has a well known name across the world and is doing a good marketing through his other brands: allposters.com, artists | rising etc. Often I find my posters on ebay by art.com and some other names.

4seasons,

Did your recent sales happen in Art.com or ArtistRising.com?  Mine sold ONLY at Art.com.  The ones uploaded after the creation of AR sold nothing (and a lot of people complain of the same situation).

Adelaide

yeah, I red on forums about no sales from A|R. Mine sales almost all come from art.com and several from allposters.com, no sales from artistrising. But there is no difference for me while images uploaded on AR migrated to art.com.

I don't know only how they are doing that: are they choosing from your portfolio on AR some images and move them to art.com? Or they are moving automatically to art.com?

A quote from their statement: "We are excited to announce that again, additional selected works by Artist Rising artists are now available for sale on Art.com and Allposters.com!" prompts that not all images are migrating but only some "selected". Though first time my all 16 images were added to art.com.

Interesting! So where are referral links?  :)

Gregor,

they have no ref program, only art.com has affiliates for buyers.
You can register here for sell:

http://artist.artistrising.com/Community/ArtistPostLoginPage.aspx

With "only" ~180000 artworks and ~33400 artists in comparison with millions images and hundred thousands photogs on micro, its kind a 'very young agency'...

But the main question is: how much of your works will be migrated to art.com, which is the main seller with a huge net of buyers.

I'm very serious about that and will upgrade to Premium membership.
I just uploaded all my quota of 50 images and emailed them with some questions about membership, payments, migrating to art.com etc...
Will let you know after their answer.

regards.

My bestsellers are sunset by ocean, food collage in retro style, space illustration, evening landscape.

You can check all three websites (artistrising.. art.. allposters...) and see freely shown bestsellers from all their collections.

There is a difference between stock and art. If stock image we call "material for product", than artwork is "finished product". Of course, a lot of stock images are already prepared for posters and prints, but be sure to AR upload only finished products without reservation. Some of my micros' bestsellers were rejected because they were "material" only.

Just try freely with 50 selected images you can imagine that someone can print a poster from them and hang on a wall- in a kitchen, bedroom, kids room, office etc. After a while you'll see your reports on traffic and sells and will be more sure what sells.

I don't know only how they are doing that: are they choosing from your portfolio on AR some images and move them to art.com? Or they are moving automatically to art.com?

As far as I understood in the forum, images that sell in AR may be picked for Art.com, but that doesn't seem automatic either.

At the time AR was created, I had 4 images.  If I am not mistaken, I can only find 3 of them in Art.com, two of which with sales (one in fact sold three times).  Since then I uploaded a few more, but after reading people's complaints in their forum, it looked like uploading was a waste of time...

I get a lot of views from both Art.com and AR.  No sales for over one year though.  :(

Adelaide

redfig@ good luck!

madelaide@

I asked these questions yesterday, now waiting for answer.
All first 16 my images were selected to art.com and only 3 to allposters. As I understand, time after time they are selecting images from all new uploads to AR and migrating them to these sites. But how often they do that and what is criterion of choosing I don't know. If they are selecting by sells on AR then no one image can by selected as there are no sales at AR yet.

My two last sells were day before last from art.com. Views yesterday 75, today 8.

I would suggest you just upload more selected photos and illustrations. I checked your portfolio, there are really fine works that can be used as a poster: your illustrations, flowers, maps, some beautiful sketches etc...
:)

My little portfolio: http://www.artistrising.com/galleries/madelaide

The ones that sold were the Colosseum (3x) and one of the beaches.

4seasons,

Were these 16 images of yours uploaded after AR started?  That's really surprising, given what everyone say in the forum.

I don't market my images at AR, and have given up uploading more due to the lack of reported sales there.  I prefer to offer them at Imagekind, were commissions are much more interesting.

I also find AR very time-consuming to upload to.  And at Art.com, two of my images are offered as "photographic prints" and one as "glicee print", and these options are not listed as "product type" in their advanced search.  If someone uses advanced search and picks any option in "product type", my images are not found.

Regards,
Adelaide

I had a quick glance at that site and it nearly brought me to tears. Oh Mary mudder of God the prices for fine art - and exceptionally good stuff it is too - is so off-the-wall that not even the Lord himself would be able to see me without the aid of a pair of binoculars, I'd be so far away from that site.

I have a lot of fine art stuff that I'd neither put there nor anywhere else like it. If you really want to hit rock bottom by all means do so but fine-art photography is the one last bastion of refuge that I will not touch by lowering my pricing.

Case in point I've just recommended to one client that he raise his prices up from 450.00 per print to 1,500.00 pp and he's getting it thankfully. The man is a pure genius but just didn't realise it and pitched his work pitifully low. The same could be said for microstockers but that's a different genre entirely.

mad...

I would say there is nothing to show as these images were added a couple of years ago just kind of a test. Two years being on micro is a lot...

Most sold Wooden cross, 44 times.

On artistrising I deleted some images and some new are waiting for approval.

Contakt@ agree with you according "fine-art photography is the one last bastion of refuge that I will not touch by lowering my pricing. " and in general according to lowering our prices... Just curious, what could be a masterpiece if someone can pay for it's print 1,500.00?... Or I miss something?

Without wanting to sound like a babylonian whore-master, we're talking about 50 limited edition prints at that price, just to clarify.

Nice portfolio Adelaide and 4seasons!

@Contakt: You are talking about artists who have already made their marks in the world of art.
I think AR is a good start for the beginning artists, myself included!
Besides, I don't want my work to be limited. I wanna sell thousands of prints!  ;D
