Title: Aspect ration

Hello, I am just wondering if there is a certain aspect ratio agencies and or the customers prefer for images. I can set my camera to 4:3 or 3:2. So far I have been taking images in 3:2 but I also crop according to my image even if it changes the aspect ration. Is that okay?

Any aspect ratio is OK, though extremely wide or tall images don't do well. Remember, the buyer may well crop the image to suit themselves so the thing to avoid is a really tight crop on the subject that prevents anybody from adjusting the shape as required.

I forgot to mention that I can set my camera to 16:9 and 1:1 as well.

I don't know what camera you have, but somewhere in there is a sensor. I would suggest taking pictures in the aspect ratio of the sensor so you capture all the camera is capable of. You can crop later if you think it makes sense visually.

That is interesting. I didn't even know that matters. I looked it up and it's 3:2. I had written to Fotolia and they replied that I should take images with 16:9 aspect ratio. I was astonished about that. I don't mind doing that for landscape images but I never got the idea to do my table top images in 16:9.

16:9 is used for video, so perhaps they thought you were asking about that?  I use the full sensor or square format for stills.

Maybe they thought that because everyone knows to shoot/submit at your sensor ratio for stills.

I can change the aspect ratio setting on my camera. I just wondered if customers prefer 4:3 instead of 3:2. So far I took images with 3:2 but then I read on the internet that for stock photography agencies I should use 4:3 and I can set my camera to 4:3. I do have enough MP.
