Title: AUGUST SALES

Historically, it looks like August should offer a slight uptick in sales, and, thankfully, no US holidays... Thoughts?

The Ghost Month starts on 22 August (the seventh month in the lunar calendar) and the
Hungry Ghost Festival (盂蘭節) is on 5 September.

During this month, the ghosts and spirits leave where ever they are based, and visit the earth.

Watch out in particular for dead relatives. They like to visit their descendants.

If worst than July , I will start to think about suicide…

I know you are probably joking, but please don't joke about suicide.  Others may think you're actually considering it and it plants a seed in their minds that it's somehow an answer to problems.  As someone who has experienced suicide in my family, I can tell you that everyone must constantly be on the lookout for warning signs that someone close to them is thinking of it as an option, and even if you hear someone mention it in a half-serious way, you have to take it seriously and find ways to help.

If you are actually thinking about it, I would beg you to talk to someone who can help.  There are many hotlines and major hospitals should have people on staff to hear you out if you just stop in.  Things are NEVER hopeless.

I've so far made 1/17th of what I made in July, and we're less than 1/30th of the way through the month. However, the microstock gods often play this cruel prank on the first few days of the month... giving us hope that this may be the best month of all time, before taking our hopes and dashing them against the rocks.

3 download at 16.00...something i never see apart some bad weekend....any hope for august maybe in september last batches i have uploaded will kick in.
i will spend my next time in rm and my real photo career. micro will be good just to pay for some photo project nothing more.
with this mess of search millions of files is totally useless upload content.
i'm sure for a year or 2 i will have the same money from now even if i ask peter lindbergh to shoot some portrait for free for me and i upload them...in 2 nanoseconds they will be buried by zillions of tomato photos coming from russia ukraine belarus.

At this rate, I'm projecting 36% more than July... which is still about 5% less than June. Although that's not far off how it worked out for me last year... and then September was my BME. Hoping for a repeat performance.

Not something I thought I'd ever say, but I really like your thermostat picture in your Image Brief page. A relatively simple change, but a very clever one, that transforms a pretty dull image into something that looks good and much more commercially viable.

I was only being sensitive with my tongue in my cheek! ;)

Yes, that thermostat sells quite nicely and I have to thank Image Brief for the original idea. I also took an image of a bag of ice in response to one of their other briefs a while back. Didn't win that brief, but I have since made $1500 on my bag of ice picture. Total cost to take it - $2 for the bag of ice!

I still watch their briefs each day and sometimes submit, and I still find it a source of ideas.

I agree with Steve and his graph.  Historically summer is always terrible for sales.  This summer is no exception.  In fact a bit worse than most.  My July was the worst since my first year in stock when I had around 300 photos.  Now over 6k photos and similar earnings. August is on trend to be bad also.

If past norms hold, I will look forward to an increase in Sept.

Congrats to the guys having a good month!

Shutterstock continues to flush itself down the pan  :'(

I made $4 yesterday (a Friday) with almost 5,000 assets. I wrote them and asked what was going on and their response was so much BS it was clear to me they were hiding something.  They said that the only thing they did was add a "more from this author" feature to the search.  If that isn't block and tackle I don't know what is. Sales are honestly pathetic.

the all micro stock industry is puff..dreasmtime śthe worst...ss is falling down, ok is summer but anything sells...i hope they eliminate popular search cause it makes those who sold in 2006 still earning a lot compared to new files uploaded....i hope is summer but i doubt. there is a flow of images not only in micro but even from a lot of free sites who give full size great images free to anybody for any use. luckily micro account for 30 % of my business...and i can wait till all those agency bust and a new format appear who will take care of eliminate all those amateur who upload 10000 tomato images in 2017.

My BME clocked at 700 dollar. My other Augusts were around the 400-500 dollar all the way back to 2013. For this August I have not reached pay out yet, I am at 91 dollar at the moment and I have had only one day over 10 dollar this month, in fact it was 11 dollar. The decline on Shutterstock is coming hard and fast. This with 3,110 files. I have not added much files lately because I have been quite busy since we had the twins.

So there you have it.

The whole month of July and August has been sheite, but since the 25th I am getting ELs and reasonable SODs again. I think their search changes to share the wealth have become fewer than before where I could see changes about every 2 weeks. That always kept my earning relatively the same. Lately the dips are much longer.

Wow, congrats.
Whenever I've had one of these contacts from Alamy asking me to confirm that an image hasn't sold already for a particular use, I never hear back; and others have said the same.
It's nice to see that sometimes the sale does actually go through.

I saw a nice uptick in the last two weeks of August.

FT sales are back to normal after a slow down in June, July and half of August. If things continue at this pace, September will be BME.

SS sales are also back up. Sales picked up in the last 2 weeks. Not a great month, but a good one and gives me optimism for Septmeber.

Sales are also slightly up on 123RF compared to last month.

Pond5 on fire this month. 90% of this months income. Only 4k sales.

3. Fotolia/Adobe  +407%/ +60%

A truly awful first half of the month retrieved by the second half somewhat to finish similar to last year's poor august. SS pretty poor DT collapse after three reasonable months RF123 showing signs of life after three dismal months Fotolia very strong second half after disappearing first. "Minnows" slow as usual. Feeling optimistic things picking up after summer slump.

After a weaker than last year July, I'm happy to see a nicely inside 4 digits August,  0.48% :D stronger than August 2016 (with SS 2.33% stronger)

Third BME of the year so far, thanks to some nice VB sales. Shutterstock and FT/AS didn't disappoint either.

Finally calculated my sales for August. Not too bad as it turned out. http://www.backyardsilver.com/2017/09/earnings-stock-photography-august-2017/ (http://www.backyardsilver.com/2017/09/earnings-stock-photography-august-2017/)

Adobe Stock continues to do well for me - the only site with a growing return per online image:
