I'm wondering where the best place to sell nudes is. Please speak from personal experience (not looking for a guess.) I'm currently on Fotolia, Istock, Dreamstime, and Shutterstock.

My nudes sell best on Shutterstock followed by istock, but wonder if there is a site more specialized in this. My work is more of the pin-up/glamour type than art nude.

Personally, I wouldn't sell identifiable nudes of any type RF.  At the cheap prices, there's too much opportunity for someone to use them against the license restrictions.  Then we have to hear "my sexy photo was used on an escort site, and the model is pissed".

I'm sure you mean well, but that was not exactly my question.

Looking for the best place to sell nude, not whether or not to sell nudes.

Not microstock, since what product or service could nudes promote? Probably RM is much better for this kind of content.

Again, thanks. But not my question -- I am already selling nudes on microstock -- and want to hear from others who are doing the same about which site is working best for them.

Shutterpoint unfortunately seems to attract a lot of buyers for nude, even porn in fact.

Dolgachov would be the best to answer this. He already came on MSG but not often anymore. All I can say it's he is doing well on Istock for sure. Maybe sitemail him... http://www.istockphoto.com/dolgachov

Well, you're already on the top four sites.  Are you just trying to compare with someone else?

Come on!  There are many products and services (which have nothing to do with prostitution) which could be promoted with a nude image.

Unfortunately?  Why?  It's just another niche in the photography business.   And... Porn?  I've never seen porn in SS.

Agreed:
My best success has been istock where i've had some decent EL's (4 on the same image). Shutterstock will be volume but no "good-bye-mr.-spaldings".
The images that i've been able to track down were used in "dance" clubs in L.A. and Berlin (as well as smaller venues elsewhere), Hedonism II has become my best clients. And depending on whether you're just shooting "nudes" or you shoot them in interesting locations, the later has gotten me some of those erotic romance novel covers : )

i'm confused already.

i thought in the Buyers' Agreement to all stock sites, there is a provision that stipulates the buyer cannot use the images for porn.
if this is not so, then we are putting our models to risk, aren't we?

Just because it says that images may not be used in porn, doesn't mean they won't. And yes, this does put nude models more at risk. In a perfect world, the human body would be beautiful and all nude pictures would be strictly art. Not in this world.

Someone above suggested many ways to use nude photos besides porn. I can think of a few, but I just can't see this being a big seller on microstock. Maybe I am wrong.

Because I don't like a site I am in to be a popular source for the porn buyers.  Yes, they have a lot of porn that sells, even if porn is against the submission guidelines.  They are very lenient to what is "acceptable".  A closeup of genitals is not just "erotic".

so, you think SS will lose their integrity for a few porn bucks?
scary !!!
but aren't most micro sites all about profits with no regard for contributors?
if not, you won't be seeing pennies for your dls  8)

I had a quick look in the portfolio of the OP "modellocate", and he has great erotic and tasteful conceptual shots. In fact, it's a great photographer, imho. What I saw is very usable in microstock, but he is already on the main sites.

Models that agree to that kind of work shouldn't complain they are used on erotic sites. There is a (huge) market for this kind of content, and they fulfill a market need. They can't expect to be featured on a church site, don't they?

lol, you never know. some clergies do ... rofl..

no seriously, if porn or erotica is where the OP wants to concentrate, they would be better off starting their own erotica site, instead of settling for a few pennies per dl, doncha think?

Why?  if we accept pennies for other images, why not for images of nudes? What's the difference?

Isn't the same true for banks or large media corporations? The guy that had his jar shot on the TIME cover sold if for 28$ on SS. Aren't banks slaves to their desires? At least the porn industry didn't cost me an arm and a leg, as the banking industry did. I beg to differ as who is the most dirty industry here.

I was told by a fellow that used to be a porn videographer in the main kingdom of porn (the San Fernando Vally, Ca.), that the internet has pretty much killed the professional porn industry. There is just too much free content on the web.  People will not pay for that which they can get for nothing.

So, where does that leave the photographer that shoots erotic art?  I thnk that he/she would pretty much be in the same boat as the video porn industry.
What distribution avenue is really left except stock?

xst

BTW,
prices for porn is not that high.
Set of 50 is ususally sold $100-$400, wich translates to $2-$8 per picture.

SS is not Shutterpoint. Shutterpoint is an entirely different site - the problem is there, not with Shutterstock. The images  Madelaide is talking about wouldn't get accepted on the main microstock sites.
