Wow, I did not even know that there were color photos back then...

I thought that color was painted directly on the photography, as I saw on some wedding photos from that time.

Thanks for this link!

Claude,

As it says there, color photography was at an experimental stage.

Even I had painted photos when I was a child.  Grin  Not that color film did not exist by then (we even have color slides my father took when I was 3 or so), but we have the series of small B&W photos taken at a studio and one of them was printed bigger and painted.  It was probably also a fashion (the B&W are more beautiful).

Regards,
Adelaide

Thanks for the link - I hadn't seen these before. Stark and dramatic reminder of just how much destruction there was in WW I

Thanks for the link Adelaide.  It seems like a different war than the black & white one we are used to seeing doesn't it?

I've been seeing a lot of photos from the current wars and they are a totally different story.  My nephew was back from Afghanistan on Canadian Thanksgiving and by the photographs it is really something else, and will be a war that is also remembered by its earthen/adobe? colour.

He finally told his mom over Christmas that their vehicle was blasted by a rocket but by some miracle they all survived.  Not like the 4 Canadian kids that died on the road over these holidays.   Stupid kid wants to go back in 2010.  Good money he says.  (You just have to live with the nightmares for the rest of your life if you make it back alive.)
