Having years ago used photobank in UK for my transparencies, I embarked on microstock a couple of years back, as I have family, farm and part time work, I am only a sporadic uploader of stock - have heaps of ideas and no time.

But microstock has really taught me to up my game in technique and to present clean images.  to the point - I have had some down time lately and went looking at some of the newer images on the sites I sell through and WOW the quality out there is so amazing (obviously I need to up my game more!)  and so inspiring - so other microstockers out there I am in awe of your talent!

And yet we get paid so little...

True  we are paid so little, but I dont know how that can be changed - for me it is a numbers game, and I have to admit I only have one image that has proved its worth and it has been hijacked as well

I agree that current quality is FAR better than when I started in microstock about six years ago.
I attribute much of my improvement in image technical quality to the microstock industry. As nutty as rejections often are they catch, reject, and therefore educate us in ways not so obvious to those without such experience.
I rarely upload anymore due to my increasing work load supplying my galleries and to the decreasing revenue from microstock. But I'm still appreciative of microstock for the education.

I don't really like the microstock style they're forcing on us, nevertheless all these strict requirements certainly improved my skills from a technical point of view - which is useful for "real" photography as well.
