Hi all!

Funny this, I recommended a collegue in London to take his images to Corbis, the RM,  now this guy is one of the few in the world that gets into NASA and similar, i.e. one of our most famous industrial/technical photographers around. He didnt want to go Micro or RF and he didnt want any dealings with Getty,  so in short I said, well go Corbis then.
Few days later: tha Corbis admin sends him a mail telling him to go to Veers, Micro HuhHuh

Leads me to think, if Corbis is what it used to be or just a front really for the ever growing Micro world?

Veer was a macro agency long before they added Marketplace. They've now merged the two price collections of their site and are selling them  side by side. During the search process buyers can select the price they want to pay, along with other parameters.

I had heard Corbis was hard to get into but that's brutal. Especially when Corbis doesn't seem to have much aerospace stuff.

Veer sounds like a deadend micro shop sales-wise.

I'd find a niche agency or market them myself if they're unique or rare.

Oh its much easier to get into Corbis then say the Getty-RM, nowdays anyway. Corbis is very much middle of the road stuff and I doubt very much my collegues material would come to its right at Corbis, dont think they have the market for it.

Yeah, not sure what Corbis is doing. They just struck up a deal for prints with Costco which seems kinda strange for Corbis to target consumers who are used to buying everything wholesale. Some photographers aren't happy about it.

Frankly I don't know if any agency , RM, RF or micro has a clue as to what to do. Veer was a much respected niche RM agency. Now it's a carcass of it's former self. Trying to do a Frankenstein routine by cobbling together bits and pieces that Igor gathers.

Hi Largercreek,

Yes, Corbis is very alive. They are the second largest revenue producing agencies in the world behind Getty. Getting in is tough but that kind of specialty work sells well I am surprised he was rejected. He could go through a third party agency that is multi distributional and would allow him to sell his images through Corbis and dozens of other sites as apposed to just one and still only produce RM. He makes a smaller percentage with a third party but makes up the difference in being able to supply one hundred agencies instead of just the one. I would love him to contact us at www.SpacesImages.com that is just the kind of work we love to see.

Best,
Jonathan Ross

Hi Jonathan!

Amazing really. He did join the Getty-RM, got into the main-core actually and according to himself, he has had 3, RM sales already ( within a few weeks or something).

Just goes to show, Getty, can still produce the goodies.

cheers

Hi Largercreek,

Yes RM is very alive despite what some people might say. Our company saw sales in the first two weeks of going live and that was through Corbis first so I know they are still making people money. I would tell him to try again it might be who he spoke to that day. The other thing is if he said he was already shooting for Getty it might make a difference but not usually. We don't have a contract with Getty yet because they are very hard to get into but I just keep banging on the door, someone will answer eventually Wink

Best,
Jonathan
