New body.  When I called the store they had 2, but I had to take the demo because they couldn't find the 2nd one.  Only had 150 clicks, no prob. and I have an excellent relationship with the vendor.

BUT - on the 16th I shot 350 frames, have releases signed that state "Shot on 16 April 2011", but my exif says...

File info 1
Created 23 Apr 2011 (the date I transfered to my editing drive)
Date modified 2/19/2010

File info 2
Date Shot 2/19/2010

Where does this leave me with the model releases signed on a different day than the exif?   (They say "shoot on 16 April 2011)?

Can I strip the exif somehow?

In my defence, I don't think this body was even released until summer 2010 so they should have no trouble believing the date is wrong.

Advice please!  Stupid stupid me for not confirming.  Now I can't even find how to change the date.  Entering the date is the first prompt when you turn it on for the first time.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it.  Dates in EXIF data aren't legal proof of anything.  They report what you set your camera to, but of course you could set it to pretty much anything.

If you want to change the EXIF data, there are utilities that can do that.  But about the only reasons I can see to care are: a) if you want something to remind you when you actually shot them; or b) if you use an iPhone or iPad to store images and want them to appear in the right order. iTunes uses EXIF shoot date for that.

In the event that I may ever upload to Istock again - won't they bust me for this ?  Haha quite possibly not an issue.

I hope/think the other agencies would be more understanding.

I have the GPS set up to automatically record correct time/date data.  I don't really intend to tag humans with GPS data though unless it is an exterior where the location is an important keyword.

(Finally got the date changed going forward.)

Edit:  Oh - I see Difydave sent some links.  THANK YOU!  Is stripping the best solution, or will they find that suspect as well.

You can strip it, but I wouldn't. Apart from anything else it's useful for future reference. Read the stuff on the Exiftool page, and then just use it to change the time. disorderly is right in that it doesn't normally matter that much, but iStock (which is the only one I know much about) did recently query an editorial upload where the time was obviously wrong in that it was a daytime shot with a night time time or vice-versa.

Sorry if this is something I missed, but why don't you just set the time and date on the camera to the correct information?

You don't say what brand or model, so it's not much help. If it's a Canon you use the software that came with it, to put your ID on the camera (owners name). Time/Date just go into the setup menu on the camera and set the correct time and date. By the way, that's how the GPS knows where you were, so it needs to be correct so it can merge the GPS info with the EXIF info and get accurate positions.

If you want to reset the camera, remove the little battery that holds the date and settings information, then it will start fresh. Didn't you get the manual with the camera?

Thanks Race, I figured out how to reset going forward, but I still have a few doz releases that conflict with the exif datestamp.   :(.   Dancers - not exactly a high in demand subject so I was hoping to distribute them in small batches over the next few months, as long as I don't have to jump hoops every time I submit.

I think you can change the date with Exifer too.

Sorry I thought it was too obvious.

I may have some old PD thing around in the archives for stripping or altering data. Drop me a PM if you want it. These are not fancy, or full featured, but for one time, you can make it work.

Here's the guy who wrote it and his newer utility.

Leave a note for the inspector along the lines of: "New camera exif date wrong, date on model release correct"

I've left similar notes when sending in composite images using models and never had a problem.

Good note RT.  Can't remember how to leave a note - do you have to put into description field and remove it upon approval?

Yes, that's how I do it.  I also put a couple of asterisks **before and after the note** to get their attention :)

At least three asterisks (I use plus signs) both before and after :)

Also, inspectors have posted a couple of times in the forums to put such notes at the beginning of the description, not the end.

Yes - The trick is remembering to remove the note afterwards  :o

Thanks for that information. I asked someone in PM about two months ago, how to add a note and never figured it out. No I don't read the IS forums and even if I did, I would have missed it. :)
