Wow and congrats to Kriesi, the first author to reach $1,000,000 in sales in Envato.  Kriesi sells primarily themes, but exciting and inspiring to read about successful authors at envato and see that the marketplace is doing well.  I wonder if Yuri will be next Wink

Also, very cool gesture to send out the 'Power Elite Ring' lol

That's great! Smiley

I'm planning to release some psd/html/wordpress templates on ThemeForest. It seems a great marketplace! Wink even if it's quite hard to get in (my first 2 psd website templates were rejected).

Neat, with only 400 things that cost $40?

So, how much did he make out of that $1,000,000 ?

he is an exclusive author, so he made 70% of that $1,000,000 (if you're exclusive your starting commission is 50%, but it increases up to 70% as soon as you reach $75,000 in sales http://themeforest.net/wiki/selling/getting-paid/payment-rates/)

and he has only 40 items on sale, not 400 Wink

40 - yeah, sorry - extra 0.  That's a lot of wordpress theme sales.

Wish I had the chops to do stock WordPress themes. I can code a theme from scratch, but the guys who sell at ThemeForest are ridiculously good coders. They build so much stuff into their products, which is why they sell well. They build solid themes with valid code that have tons of options, shortcodes, etc.

I have to imagine Orman is up there with Kriesi, probably close to $1 million. His stuff is amazing as well. I've purchased an Orman theme and his work is really impressive.

I purchased a wp theme too, and I can say that they are very well made! Tons of options, shortcodes, custom post types, widgets, etc.... I still have to learn a lot before submitting one!

But I think that psd templates, html templates and email templates are something I can do! I'll give it a try as soon as I have decent items to submit!

I might have to try Envato again.  Couldn't get one thing accepted on Graphic River it's a PITA.  I might have to check it out to see what else I could do in that marketplace.

from the interview....

You have 40 items currently on the Marketplaces. How many hours have you spent on designs for the Envato Marketplace?

Thats hard to tell since I usually don’t design the whole template in Photoshop before starting to code. I create a rough layout in Photoshop and add details on the go while coding the HTML or WordPress version. The average time per project that I am really working in Photoshop is probably 2-3 days. The average time for a WordPress theme from start to finish about 3 weeks…
