I found an image of mine at Flickr.  I assume this is not allowed there.

Would you report to Flickr, which will probably have the image simply removed, or do you contact a site to act for you?

If I were you, I'd first write a public comment to the Flickr user, with a copy to the Flickr admin. At the same time, keep a print copy to yourself. This way, people would know it is used without authorization, and you have the evidence to stop the illegal use.

Not even sure if they care. I see photos of movie stars, top fashion models,etc... on flickr. I can't believe that the owner / photographer of such images will need to put them on flickr. They have to be illegal postings, like yours.

What bothers me most is not seeing people using images without buying them, but seeing them using it as if it was theirs.  Like these two in Flickr and one in MySpace that even puts a copyright notice.

All we get from reporting to the sites is that they remove the images, without any real punishment for the infractor.

It's a blessing that we can't easily see our images in their final use out there in the real world. I'm sure we'd be despondent to see all the thievery.
