Easy - you simply have to pay them $50 placement fee for every picture you submit.

That's only $50,000 for 1,000 pictures.  Is that a problem?

Not quite true, you submit a test batch and then they review them and tell you which collection they would like your images to appear in, some you pay for some you don't.

Either way all your submissions have to go through their Preflight software which you can download from their site in the contributors section.

Actually, they got rid of Preflight a month or two ago.

Strange I didn't hear anything about that and according to my account files should still go through Preflight, are you registered as an 'outside' contributor or are you talking about the iStock deal for gold contributors?

I haven't checked lately, but when I inquired about submission, they required something like 100 high res samples that were over 40 MB each. Is that still the requirement?

From a mail back on feb 1st, I assume sent to everyone:
From 1st February 2008, it is no longer a Submission Requirement to use any version of the Getty Images Preflight tool to verify and convert your images prior to submission.

charging their contributers sounds like a  a clever idea from their point of view. having said that I am not so keen on the idea of paying for only uploading  files  but  I am sure it would avoid  their sites to be overloaded with less quality images.
but what about the commissions?what is the contributers cut like when you sell an image?has it change after that ?

I am not on Getty yet but I am hoping to contribute in a near future. So I'd appreciate your response.

Cheers
