I think it will be intersting to know: How did you heard or discover microstock for the first time? If somebody know some buyers it will be good to know also the story.
For myself it's somebody that gave me the idea to sell pictures using internet, so I maked a search using "selling" and "pictures" and then finded the Featurepics website. I was thinking to be good because they were appoving all my pics LOL (That was before IS).
I taked a look at the microstockgroup forum after beeing whit DT (in a second step) when the DT website was down and wanted to know why...

i joined some scam stock photo site and then googled "sell my photos" to find more places to submit my photos, only to find out this site was scamming everybody  then i found microstock forum and joined the legitimate ones. luckily for me, the photos i submitted to the scam site were garbage, as i later found out with my rejects from the new sites i joined  i like featurepics too, not because they accepted all my shots. other sites do that too, but featurepics is fast at publishing. naturally, for me, it really does not matter whether a site accepts all or rejects some of my photos. what matters is whether they sell or not. as i am new, only about 3 weeks old, this is too soon to know. but i accept featurepics in the same respect as any of the big 6. until i see my money, all sites are equal to me  |

I found out about microstock when I was on DPChallenge and the topic came up multiple times on their forums. In fact at least some DP Challenge members are "microstock famous" in some way or other:

Mel King
All DPC'ers. I'm sure there are HUNDREDS more. My join date for most stock sites is 2004. lol

I found out about microstock when I was on DPChallenge and the topic came up multiple times on their forums. In fact at least some DP Challenge members are "microstock famous" in some way or other:

Too bad Nico didn't sign up on your DT and SS link on DPC eh? YOU had more images than anyone I knew for almost 2 yrs of micro. You ARE microstock famous. So go upload something. lol ~M(avrik on dpc) |

I actually came across micro back about 2004 as a photo buyer doing design work for several firms. I used to do the bulk of the buying through iStock.
A shooter for many years, involved in traditional stock during the dinosaur days of submitting trannies. Use micro now mainly to sell illustrations.

I found Russian stock Fotobox and Rosfoto in 2003-2004. Soon discovered "The Big 5" via web search.
Thanks to the stock industry I have no financial problems now.

You cannot (at least it is very hard with longish review times) - DPchallenge requires photos taken during the contest time (week) |

I started to look for places where to sell my travel photos, saw some micros and macros when doing internet search on the subject, and ended up trying Shutterpoint.
Some people there were in micros, so after a while I decided to give this a try, with images produced for it (not my travel shots).

Well I was drawing comics for a magazine in US.. The owner of the magazine told me about shutterstock and suggested that my illustrations would sell good there..
Thank god he did it..
His magazine is one of shutterstock's many customers..

they can't really but if you get in the top 10 you have to submit the original RAW or jpg file (now the resized for web one). They look at that image and if the exif information doesn't say it was taken within the challenge dates, the image is disqualified. |

if you get in the top 10 you have to submit the original RAW or jpg file And there are programs that tell you if a program (Photoshop, ACDSee, LR, etc) has modified the original - you either have to submit a TRUE original or you don't win. lol DPC is a great place to learn a lot of photography & stock skills - and a great place to get ideas to shoot! |

My love of Oklahoma Sooners football brought me to microstock. Some guy on a Sooners fan forum had a link in his signature that said "Make money from your photos!" so I checked it out. I submitted my first 10 photos to SS, had 9 accepted, and then promptly forgot about the whole thing for a few months. Haha! A year later I was making my living from microstock photography. Strange world we live in. |

I sold my first stock Image in 1968, played around for years with the RM sites. Then In late 04 a Call came from the publisher of the biggest Photo rag on the planet. He wanted to pay me to infiltrate this new business and write an article about it. I did and the article was never published, Only a few pieces. "Make money with pictures on your hard drive" Well I stayed and saw a future. Thats about it. Don't see the future now but thats another Thread.

I forget where i heard about it first. I think perhaps on dpchallenge though - back in 2004 some time. A good site for those who want to take part in some photography competitions www.dpchallenge.comI started with istock and dreamstime, then shutterstock when it started up. |

Feb 2005 - The day I graduated from Humber College (Digital print and Web) at the age of 50 I landed my current job as a Graphic Designer. The boss told me to get a "free" picture from SXC for a flyer - started uploading there, went from free to pay via StockXpert and the rest is history.

I have been familiar with the "subject" since 2005. And i was sure i would never ever sell my pics for that kind of money. In middle Feb this year i got some extra freetime and started uploading to MP, there i read a couple of threads about this site and now i can't stop. I do believe the market has to consolidate itself and mature, but i don't think its going to dissapear. It's a fact that many talented people now have a new arena to start at and thats great. Maybee not for all the big ones who now find themselves to slow and not adopting. I was close to bee there myself |
