Right now, this month looks to be what I made back in February of 2014.  And that's a third less than last month.  Horrendous.

5 subs in the last 7 days, haven't just hit the wall I've exploded into a thousand pieces! Even DT is beating SS by a factor of 10 and I didn't think I'd ever write that.

How many images do you have in your port?? You often complain about zero days - did you have better times with SS?

1,824 and yes there have been better times where a zero day was years ago and sales were 5-10 times higher.

Not good! and its not going to get better! I think micro finally has leveled out and become exactly what it is. A jumble sale of pics.

A junk yard sale more like.

Its pretty dead, but it is also dead in video, where  there is hardly any competition with only 7 million files.

I think this is the summer slump.

It will pick up again in September.

It will pick up again in September.

I wouldn't count on it picking up in September. My gut feeling is telling me this is the new norm for this business...

Demand for images can't just vanish overnight. Not without a global economic calamity. But I agree it doesn't feel good.

90% down for me!

Of course, I have no idea what the question was, but I thought the answer was in keeping with the rest of the thread.

I expected July to be the worst month of the year, and it's been that way download-wise across the board. Earnings were boosted by a few big downloads, so it's on pace to matching or even surpassing June.

It does give me optimism that even in my worst month, it's decent. Once August and September rolls around, everything will pick up again.

The last few months have been like that for me potential awful months saved by (relatively) big value sales often from some expected sources. Bit concerned this is luck and might stop but $s are $s.

You are not alone in this.
More and more it is becoming a trend: bad month + unexpected big sale(s) on Alamy, FAA or Pond5 = good month. Bingo!

More and more the microstock industry looks like a lottery

SS and Adobe working together??  who knows but there are scary similarities sometimes. Feeding these two beasts results in absolutely nothing nowadays. The middle and lower tier agencies try harder and myself and a few pals have been uploading to DP and DT now for some time and DP is beginning to show a really good rise with last month seeing some $520!  not often you get that amount from a middle tier agency.

We are all so consumed and taken with the likes of SS and Adobe/Ft that we tend to forget the others who in fact have not yet lent themselves to all the search crap and dealings.

"we tend to forget the others who in fact have not yet lent themselves to all the search crap and dealings." yeah right......DT and DP never do that sort of thing..... ::)

Why dont some of you here rather start uploading to the macro industry Rm/Rf agencies. I know many do but I mean that the actual cream of the crop should go there and then the secondary material into micro. Many people I know have started to work like that.

Sales are nice for me at moment , I also had an extended licence sale and some nice sales at Alamy.
For the rest I'm having the usual amount of subs downloads at SS and AS.
I'm also waiting for the iStock notification for the june sales.
For now July seems better than june

do you have any recommendations apart from Alamy? Everyone would love to get into Stocksy but it seems they don't open submissions very often.

I would say Alamy is probably the worst place of them all to upload . They are 80% editorial and creative dont seem to sell at all. Stocksy? I know some people there but they hardly earn any money. I recon they will have to turn a bit more commercial.
I think you want to turn to the specialized agencies they are tough to get into but once there it pays handsomely. Trevelyan, SPL, Blend, Arcangel to name a few. They are also aggregators to Getty etc.

blend images sell in micro stock mostly nowadays.....trevel and archangel if you think they sell handsomely you are smoking something very good.....do you think that customer buy rm who they can buy rf for penny?
i browse often in micro portfolio and i still have to see somebody really with a portfolio who could dwell in a specialized agency.
documentary and editorial you can earn good money if you are with some good agency but you spend a lot to finance your project.
lifestyle you must be superb to succeed in a rm agency, most of the stuff i see in rf is very normal

you talk a lot of rm agency but what is our experience? before create false myth you should at least have some real clue.

Agree. Never seen it like this in 10 years. With SS I am at about $200, I'm generally three times that at this point in the month.
