I made a post recently about how facebook charged me $25 for an ad that i choosed to run for 2 days for $5 each day. I talked about how they charged me more than what i'm supposed to pay.
Two days later, i made another ad on my fb page. I choosed France as the targeted democratic where i wanted the ad to be shown. I made sure everything was right before pushing the final button. When the ad ended, i faced a dilemma that i faced before when advertising on fb ( it's been a long time since), the people who like my page come from another country. Most of the likes come from Indian, Pakistani, thailand and Bangladeshi people!!! I TARGET FRANCE and got not one like from someone of France. Can anyone here explain to me how this work? I know it's not the best place but i can't see any place where people can help me out. Even facebook won't reply back. Below is a screenshot of the people who like the post. I swear, all of them had Indian names jokes apart ( AND I TARGETED FRANCE!!!!!)

I'm guessing you're not watching news regulary? Nowdays there are plenty "refugees" from those countries in France. Tens of thousands of them. Maybe they liked your page? Because, this is France now.

Population of France: 66.9 million.

Yes, it makes perfect statistical sense.

Not.  :P

Maybe people in France don't like your work? You can pay and get as many eyes on your ad as you want. If you aren't offering something they want it won't matter.

I agree 100%. Tbh I would prefer having 0 likes than having likes from people who live in a country Im not targeting.

I skimmed an article a couple of weeks ago saying that even some big companies have been finding that Fb targetting isn't working and are moving away from there, but I haven't been able to find it for you.

Are you certain those likes are a result of the campaign and not coincidental?

From my personal use on Facebook its very rare I follow through on the adverts mainly they are irrelevant, borderline scam or annoying so I'm not surprised if people are starting to question their value. I think advertising may be under threat from personal recommendation on social media....though of course many of these are not what they seem.

These aren't the article I saw, but interesting nevertheless.
(From my own perspective, I hate ads, have AdBlockPro and don't like seeing them on Fb, but can't avoid it. I know FB is free and the money has to come from somewhere, but I don't actually NEED Fb.)
One thing they and Google get wrong is that if I've been to a site and haven't seen anything I like, I see ads (I still haven't got round to ad-blocking my phone) for that site. Get this: If I've been to a site and didn't like anything, I'm not suddenly going to buy something because of ads - that makes no possible sense. Also I have 5 hours on a bus three times a week and if I've run out of Anki flashcards, I'll just click on these ads out of badness.)

I'm not sure how any of the internet ads work at all, anyone remotely long enough on internet has developed an immune system to them and just automatically ignores them.

Seriously scary considering people take Facebook as a legit platform far from scam. Scarier coz no big mainstream gonna cover this.
