Hi,

I've been in stock photography business for several years now and have an established portfolio on 15+ micro agencies and some macro. I have only photos and illustrations in my port, no footage at all. Is worth investing in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, time to learn all the stuff and shoot several clips for the start ?

I have Canon 5d mkII and I know it is perfectly capable of shooting great quality clips, but still I am not sure whether dive into this completely new world for me, or better stay in what I am good at = stills.

Has anyone tried this 'transformation' ? What are your opinions ?

Thanks!

I can't tell you whether it's worth it but I took that approach almost a year ago and added video to my ports. I have been in a lull with other life responsibilities so haven't shot a lot but have managed to upload over 100 videos. I would say that I have sold maybe 8 to 10 in that year. I have my video on shutterstock and Istock. I've sold 3 on Istock the rest on shutterstock. I am on motion elements and revostock as well but no sales there. I will say that in general the beach scenes don't do well. Like flowers beaches are the same in video......everybody has them.  I just started doing more studio based set up shots and expect my video sales to slowly improve now that I am more focused on concepts.  Is it worth it? I can't say from a financial standpoint, but I enjoy doing it. I feel better that I am expanding my product offerings but one word of advice is not to forget about your other products such as your still images. That is very easy to do. Balance the two and build both portfolios is my humble advice.

Shooting good clips and doing decent post are two different things. Expect to invest heavily in time to get your clips looking proper.
