Is it appropriate to have the same MR photo on more than one site -- such as both photoshelter and alamy?

I can't see why not. The same image can sell a number of times under MR on just one agency (that's happened to me with Alamy), so why not across more than one?

I think you mean RM.
If both agencies allows it its possible in your case it's possible because PS and Alamy allows it. But really successful RM-agencies (like Corbis and Getty) don't allow it for obvious reasons.
