RM Exclusive on Alamy earned me very little. I was surprised at the low amount of royalty for the RM license I received. I pulled the images and listed them on Pond5 for $100 instead.

How's that working for you? I keep reading (here on msg) that Pond5 is good for video but not for stills.

My position is RF for images you could have taken everywhere (focused, close-in) and RM for the others.

Yes, but why? The more I think about it, the more I think you would earn more having all pictures on all sites as RF. I had three more Alamy/Getty sales for more than $150 and they were all RF. The same images also sell on Shutterstock and other sites and earn their money there as well. Although I'm not saying those images were great (although there was a very nice Washington DC cherry blossom shot), but if I had made them RM, I would have missed all the sales on the micro sites.

Problem is, your linked analysis is right, it depends on the image and putting everything in one basket, isn't the answer. We need to access the potential and make a decision. Best images that we think will work for us best on RM sites, should go to those. Others can be RF.

Where I disagree is this above quote about "if I had made them RM, I would have missed..." If you made them RF and had no sales, what would you have missed from RM?  ;D Hindsight is usually accurate, because we know the answer.

I like your first strategy where each of us, as the artist, evaluates and places these special images, where we think they will do best. If not, then why not just scatter seeds to the wind and see what grows? The what if may be open to second guessing, but at some point we all have to have a plan and direction in how we market the better images. You have a good plan, give it a year.

By the way I just changed all my RM Editorial images on Alamy to RF. I'm getting more sales, around the same earnings as the RM in the past. Too soon to say if this works or was just a random bump up. Reason I sent them to Alamy in the first place is no credentials or releases and Alamy understands what news is. The micros wouldn't accept them. Inadvertently that makes them exclusive on Alamy.  8)

The RF sales this year, look to be about half the income of RM, but I have twice as many so far. No gain, no loss. I still need to give it a year and see how the decision worked. Where it's going to add is, files that I couldn't upload to Micro if they were RM on Alamy, will now have another distribution channel. In theory that means, I'll make more.

if you have a super image not present in any agency
you should send them to the best rm not alamy...most of alamy images rm are simply normal and easily a customer can found similar quality in rf.
rm you should only deal with niche and boutique agency, who serves very big customer for very big sale. alamy as rm agency is more similar to micro stock than an rm agency.

Yes I agree^^  Alamy is just bloody terrible when it comes to Rm and not much better with Rf either. Their search etc is a joke. Alamy is ONLY for editorial contributors and their search dont care one bit for creative photography. Sorry but thats the way it is.

Can somebody offen an RM agency that is for creative people? Like the midstock stocksy site. Not Arcangel, they are creative, but there is mostly photoshopped photos for book covers. I like the Stocksy style, so if somebody can suggest a macro agency  for creative people photos I appreciate that.

I put together this list a few months ago. A more up to date list is on my blog.
