Hi guys,

I was wondering why I get no sales/views at BS and CS? I haven't even reached my first payout there, after 1 year, with around 950 images.
Of course I have no issues with the other agencies (monthly payouts)
I'm even considering removing my port from those agencies because they are not worth my time anymore and my port goes wherever I go. I have already stopped uploading.

Surely there must be others experiencing the same?

Anyway, thanks and have a good weekend lads.

Totally agree a complete waste of time, if I got the views it wouldn't be too bad would just have to accept my images don't suit the site. But when you don't get any views you have to wonder does anyone ever use these sites. They do seem to be the only ones that I experience with.

I get a payout every month BS, sometimes they do really well.  As they accepted almost everything I uploaded, my portfolio is much bigger there than other sites and they can sometimes match sales with my much smaller DT portfolio.  CS is slower but still well worth using.

When my sales were slow on the smaller sites, I just worked harder to improve them.  I think that's a lot more profitable than removing portfolios.  I can understand people that cant spend much time doing microstock just sticking to the big sites but if you want to get the most for your images, I think it's worth using the middle tier sites and working harder to increase sales.

I spend +10 hours a day on stock so I think I work hard enough mate. I'm actually trying to trim down the hours a bit.

I don't think trying to improve will change things sharpshot, what could change things is upping vectors or other niche material but even then it's like newcomers do not stand a chance there.
I wonder who will replace all those old farts ;) in microstock if they don't expose their newcomers.

Veer and 123RF income are way above these agencies with monthly payouts. DP,PD and GL follows, BS and CS are really pathetic compared to all of them.

If you're putting in those hours, and have 950 images already, you just need a bit of patience.  Removing my portfolio from the smaller sites would of been a costly mistake.  You can always concentrate on the big sites and upload in bulk once a year to the smaller sites.  It doesn't take much time and gives earnings a nice boost in the long term.  Some sites like CS seem to take much longer than others to get sales going but they are consistent when they do.

Bear in mind that Shutterstock only bought BS a relatively short time ago.  It's hard to know how strongly it's being marketed now compared to what may come in the future.  I'd hold your horses if I were you.  If you don't want to keep uploading there, just leave what you have in place rather than removing it.  If things pick up there later, you don't want to have to upload your whole port again.

As for Canstock - well it's a slow site in terms of sales, but worth it for the big sales that come through from time to time.

sales are slow but worthwhile at BS:  $2 sale yesterday; average is only about $10 a month but it all counts toward new equipment.   :P

Ouch, that's just not worth it to me Warren, minimum payout (or at least $50) every month is required for me to stay with an agency, especially after 1 year.
The bulk upload sounds good but then there's the BS management (categories) which would again take a huge amount of time with hundreds of images. And to think some have that bridge to SS, what a privilege.

when you are big enough I guess you can think like that, at least a payout every month but in the end it will hurt you, I dont have monthly payout from BigStock, CanStockPhoto, DP, PD, SF, GLO, PM, VEER and even DT.. so I dont see a problem to collect every two months, sure I could stick with 80% of my income but sure the other 20% make it a lot more worth..

This is really good advice.  A couple of years ago I was frustrated with Veer.  They were new to micro and hadn't gotten their footing.  Since I was considering exclusivity at Istock, I pulled the images I had on Veer (around 2k).  A year later Veer had improved all the things that had bothered me, and were bringing in sales.  I have been spending the last year and a half uploading every week, and with a 50/week limit, it took an eternity to get back to the amount of images I had there originally.  But they are a good selling mid-tier site now.  If I can ever manage to get my entire port there, sales would be even better! Wish I had just left my images instead of pulling them all.

Alright guys, I will leave my port where it is and continue to hold my uploads until sales start to occur  ::)

Thanks again all for your input.

Lisa, Veer is performing well for me too, I don't even mind the slow loading of the site, overall top agency for me.

There are now a number of these small sites that got started a couple years ago, for which we all had hopes, which have just not taken off.  My opinion is that this shows there are just too many sources for the same images and that these sites haven't really differentiated themselves in any significant way.  All they're doing is competing on price.   There's no point in taking the time to upload and keyword photos just to have them sit there month after month generating pennies.  I want to see some new marketing concept or some specialization; I'm not interested in any more "me too" sites.

What, you don't know of any either?  :-)

Another thing to consider is that some of these small sites are going to cease operations; and there they are, with all your images on who knows how many drives in how many servers.   Are we trusting them to properly wipe those drives and not just pay off debts by quietly selling them on some black market?

sure.. but I believe at 750 downloads per month a buyer can get at SS its only a matter of time also no? we may also have a ton more ideas like agencies perhaps selling our work and not paying us no? or perhaps contributors getting 50% when you get 25%? higher ranking without having sales to have it? I can be here all day long.. not to mention almost all agencies have done some very weird things to contributors in the past, many reported here.. so why trusting more in them?
