Hi,

I would like some honest responses to this.

I'm a professional photographer, 20 years shooting still, video and film.  Recently, I opened a Shutterstock account with the intention of uploading 100+ videos to them. I opened an account and when I was unable to log in, I thought that maybe their site had not registered me properly. So, I attempted to open an account with them again. What might have happened is that I opened a general account and when I attempted to upload my video it seemed maybe I needed to open a contributor account also. Anyway today I received the following email from them; -

A warning has been added to your account by a Shutterstock administrator:
You are receiving a warning for attempting to open a second Shutterstock account.
Your conduct is a violation of Paragraph 4 of Shutterstock's Submitter Terms of Service,
which states: "You may not have more than one active submitter account at any time without the written consent of Shutterstock in each instance. If this behavior continues, it may result in the termination of your Shutterstock account. We have disabled your other account.

You currently have 2 warning(s).

Regards,
Shutterstock

'A WARNING HAS BEEN ADDED TO YOUR ACCOUNT,' 'YOUR CONDUCT IS A VIOLATION,' YOU CURRENTLY HAVE TWO WARNINGS.'

I REALLY NEED TO ASK YOU ALL, AM I OVER SENSITIVE OR IS THIS A DISGUSTING WAY TO TREAT A PROFESSIONAL WHO INTENDED TO SEND THEM THOUSANDS OF IMAGES AND 100+ VIDEOS TO THEIR SITE?

I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED SUCH AN OBNOXIOUS EMAIL LIKE THIS IN MY ENTIRE LIFE AND NOW I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM.

I expected to read some cuss words or other rude language, but this is only a stern warning (even though apparently it's caused by a misunderstanding). So yes, you're being oversensitive. Especially when you start writing in caps.

Simply respond to them in a kind fashion and explain them your situation. Sometimes it's really that simple.

Yes, way over sensitive.  Although you may have violated their terms in error, from their point of view somebody was doing something possibly deceptive and they took the appropriate response.   Their message is professional and succinct.  Not sure why they gave you two warnings, though, instead of one.  Many of us have had a warning from them at some time or another for a (usually inadvertent) violation of their rules.  Just don't get another one and you'll be fine.

If you react this way to their message then I imagine it will be even worse once you start getting rejections for content.  You're going to have to develop a tougher skin if you want to succeed at microstock - Shutterstock is one of the better agencies in how they treat contributors.

BTW, to make sure you are on the contributor account always go to the site that begins "submit.shutterstock".

They don't know you.  You're just one of a thousand people a day to sign up.

It's a template that their legal department drew up so account managers would use, nothing personal.

I can only conclude you have led a very sheltered life......I don't think its personal

All sorts of people all over the world create accounts on SS. They don't know what your intentions are, they don't know you, we don't know you, noone online knows anyone. You might be an FBI agent :).

I've seen accounts of very experienced contributors suspended without warning, not that I know if they didn't do anything wrong. Maybe they did and deserved every bit of it. SS just uses the language that works, I guess you'll remember for a while not to create another account. As already has been mentioned, perhaps try and remove the warnings (if it's at all possible) by explaining what happened.

Bear in mind this is one of the consequences of the many, many scammers in microstock nowadays. Nothing personal. I know it seems harsh, but really, for once they are on top of something.

To be honest: yes, you are oversensitive guy. It is standard 'legal' message. Just take it easy  ;)

...Simply respond to them in a kind fashion and explain them your situation.

I would suggest you write a polite (no snark) note to support explaining that you were confused by the signup process and only opened the second account because you thought you'd made a mistake with the first. Apologize for that and ask them to please remove the warning as it was an unintentional error.

No sense starting out with warnings you don't deserve.

If you do decide to upload to SS, I suggest you try to view the process of uploading your work with a little less emotion. They will accept or reject your submissions on the basis of what you upload, not on how many year's experience you have or how many items you have to upload  (and yes, they do have a very uneven inspection process, but that's the reality of dealing with them). You'll drive yourself crazy if you react to rejections the way you did to the automated message about opening multiple accounts.

Good luck

It is just an automatic sending mail, message is unfriendly; specially if you are honest person that make some mistake during creating account; but it is not rude.

Think that, usually; people who do this is trying to scam system somehow...

Dont worry to much about it, try to contact them to explain how mistake was and keep with your amazing work ;)

Its not your fault but they had to get stern because of all the "bone heads" out there that like to be sneaky and do things like cheat the system basically.  ::) :)

This is just a "one size fits all" computerized warning. Robots and computer don't have feelings after all. Maybe programmed emotion.  ;)

Your only recourse now is to challenge them to single combat... or maybe just write them a nice email explaining the mistake like everybody else said. If you choose single combat though, I want a follow up post. :D

unfo this happened to me.i created a ss account 2 years ago and they rejected me so i didnt bother anymore.anyhow i tried to upload again becouse they stopped the stupid 7 out of 10 photos,,but i forgot i signed up with yahoo and not with my other mail which i use it in every microstock site
i entered again my details couse they told me the first time i didnt type them correct and few days later i got the same <ungry  letter> you did .i was so pissed like the op becouse
a they are not my boses to get this kind of reaction
b i dont work for them they are a just another site when you can upload your content and maybe sell it

so i didnt reply them back explaining the mistake i did .<of course later on they rejected some pics i send them which one of them sold on dreamstime with the known noise issue  >:(
but when i calmed down i can see why they send it couse like most people here say they dont know you so even if this was a mistake from my part or your part they thought this might be a spam too.
just dont pay any attention submit your images or videos, try to not get upset when they are gonna reject some awsome work you did couse under their logic you did technical mistakes and just move on to another site to submit your content there.

I noticed in the UK election that both the main parties are using uppercase a lot now.  Who changed the rules?  It still looks like shouting to me.

I have a tendency to not even bother reading it because it is too difficult. A few words to emphasize something is fine, but there is a reason type fonts are designed the way they are. All caps destroys the flow of letters.

It's even funnier, because this is probably autmated generic message.
