Hey,

I have been wondering what is the point of synchronizing your microstock accounts with social networks like Twitter, Facebook.
I mean for instance the automatic posting on the Facebook wall how many pictures of yours were approved and sold.
Does it have any marketing/financial sense for us stock photographers or is it just a form of free advertising for microstock sites ?

Best,
Michal

Presumably it would only be a benefit to your or the agency if you have people visiting your FB page who might buy images, but don't already use the agency/your port.
Otherwise, you're possibly just annoying your contacts/friends, especially if they're the sort of boring stocky photos that sell well, but are not the sort you show your friends.
(Take that with a pinch of salt if you like. I'm on FB, but for me it's totally pointless altogether as I hardly know anyone else who's on there.)

That would be truly annoying, and I have already dropped several people who have those "I sold 4 images on Shutterstock today" auto-postings.

exactly.. I honestly dont understand why posting I sold this or got this approved because in the end if you havent got any buyers there its basically just screwing your own business in the long run, I noticed that quite often, a guy selling a wrinkled paper everyday and a few weeks after more 4 or 5 friends more report sales on newer files and what is it? the wrinkled paper lol

sure other do it thinking of the referral earnings, I guess looking for buyers/sellers referral income but in fact I dont believe it will work out.. again wasting time and money

I share your views and that's why I asked.
One possible benefit I can see however is that this automatic bragging about sales etc might give more search results in Google and boost your name or your company name higher there.

My Facebook account is not searchable by the search engines (you can set this in the security settings on Facebook).  I see no point in it and I too have left folks on Facebook and Twitter because they do this.

I've never had any bother getting high results in Google; the only site I'm currently keeping up to date is at position 4 out of 'over 16million' on its main keyword, on Google UK. I can't seem to get into Google.com (it always changes to .co.uk), but as it's a local campaigning site, it wouldn't matter too much if it's not high in other countries.

yep - i tried it when it was first offered, but i quickly got tired of seeing MY OWN postings every day.  it makes little sense, other than building traffic for FB and the agencies

Actually, I use "approved files updates" on twitter ( have some "design" followers.. so who knows  ::) ), and sometimes activate all FB updates as "mighty weapon" against my friends games updates  ;D ( Personally I don't pay much attention to FB as business tool )
