Remember when passing Shutter (7 out of 10) was bragging rights.  And when they passed they sold immediately! When your image got accepted you could start counting the sales!  Seems like a million years ago!

How I miss those days now... :-\

Very often used to wake up and first thing in the morning find a balance of $50 just over night sales!...its time go quit micro and try the luck in the traditional agencies I recon.
We could be watching the beginning of the end. This is no doom/gloom but reallity. :)

It isn't all bad.  Successive British governments have messed up so badly that the British pound has fallen sharply against the US dollar, so I now get a lot more money when I convert to my currency.  I also now know how to live on very little money :)

And passing IS was the ultimate challenge when they put you on the naughty step for a few months! Completely different environment now.

yes there is no doubt micro-stock has been good but also extremely destructive. Turned a serious profession into some slap dash business AND we helped feeding it all the way. We should be horse wipped with barbed wire! :-\

Yeah, I remember folks convincing themselves that if I sell say 100 images at a $1 a piece that is as good as selling one good quality images at $100.   But is it? Now we don't get a $1 an image (RPD) nor do we sell 100 images anymore more   :-[

Sitting in front of a pictures editors desk as they inspect your 6x7 transparencies for sharpness with a loupe on their lightbox.
Minimum submission to join an agency was 250 - 500 images.
Trying to get 10 images into the annual catalogue.
90% of your income would then come from those images, but you`d earn more from those 10 images than 1000`s now online in microstock.
Missing the deadline by a couple of weeks for a certain category!
Posting transparencies to another country.
Sales reports arriving by post and you had no idea how much you would get until it arrived.
Minimum payout was $250. But you would cover that with one sale.
Shooting stock full time with only a few 100 images on file.
Seeing your image on a post card, while on a trip in a foreign country shooting stock.
Sales reports that read....

Those were the good old days!

Yep!  thats the nail on the head!  indeed the good old and prosperous days. I remember Tony Stone and The Image Bank!  if you could get in the region of just 2000 M/F or large format trannies in their files they would make 20 excellent dupes of them and spread them all over the world. I remember sales-reports of 5-figure dollar amounts and sometimes in pound sterling. I remember Pete Turner once opening a sales-report anf holy cow there was the amount. 93K in which he nearly fell off the chair.
Oh well its all water under the bridge. In 10 years time we will be amazed and remembering the good old 2018 years when we got the staggering amount of 0.38c per image. ;D
