They have been down for at leat seven hours. Quite worrying since they owe me money! :( (not a lot, sales never picked up over there)

Remember, they sold the site.  I was disappointed by the sale--I never sold an image, but I liked their attitude and pay scale.  If the site had been successful, it would have put pressure on others to increase their payouts.

Be patient, and we'll see what happens.

Same here... Since today my browser (IE+FF) can't "find" it. I have a few pics there and wonder if I should try to contact them and ask them to be removed... I contacted them a couple of days because of the sale, but no reply... Anybody with more info?  :( SY

Yeah ... I also liked the site. They have the politest way of saying your picture is not approved. They even spend some time detailing why they decided so.. Sure hope that the new approvers would continue the tradition... :)

Yes, it's not working for either.

Hopefully it's just a site update due to the new ownership.  If it was sold, we should not expect it to be closed.  I wouldn't worry.

If I remember right, didn't the written notice that the site had been sold say something about the site being taken down some time soon for rebranding?  Or at least that's the impression I got from the note.

If its for rebranding purposes, I hope they just configure the server to post at least some form of notice so designers/photographers/guests would know. Not everybody reads everything on their welocome screen so there might be viewers/prospects who would not know that there is something going on the background.

If it was just for re branding something seems to have gone wrong. It has been over 24 hours and still nothing. A big site like Istock was only down a few hours when their site was redone. It would be easy enough to post a notice explaining what is going on.

I am concerned about my portfolio. My contract was with the original owners of the site, I know nothing about this new guy. I hope we have not all been ripped off!

I wouldn't worry too much yet.  I'm just speculating here, but since they needed to take the site down for rebranding, maybe they're changing the host location to some service provider closer to the purchaser?  Who knows.

But you're right, it's definitely not very professional to just bring the site down without some page left to notify photographers and customers what's going on.  It's not a very good way for the new ownership to start this relationship in my opinion.

As a web designer, (among other things), I know it wouldn't take much effort to point the address somewhere with a one page notice. Even USPhoto is doing that, and I still think they're crooks.

On the other hand, if they paid money for the site, you have to assume they intend some commercial purpose. I hope so. I did a lot of uploading the last week before the change.

4 months later...
Has the site (bought by an Australian) been re-opened under a different name, or has it become a private collection purchase ?  I am still wondering what happened to all the portfolios everyone left there...
Any clues ?

I was wondering about this myself and from time to time I check the old URL.  It's odd that someone buys a site and doesnt do anything with it...  I thought about writing to some of the people who were there and had more contact with the admin to know if they know something else.

I remember that at the time they announced the sale I googled for the buyer and the only person with that name I found in Australia was a maestro and composer...

Hmmm I thought the whole deal was dodgy, I had almost reached payout then wam the sites gone along with my money, not impressed. I would have thought they should have paid out all that was owed even if payout hadn't been reached.

I hadn't had any sale there.  The deal sounded a bit fishy in the end, because the so-called site buyer never did anything with the site.  By then I did an Internet search with the name of the buyer, who apparently was from Australia, and I only found a maestro in the Sydney Opera House (if I remember it right) - not likely a stock photo site owner. I wish I knew someone with more contact with the previous site owner to clarify this.

I think Laurin was in touch with him at some stage. He didn't have anything positive to say about the experience, to say it in a polite way  ;D
